When Orlando Cabrera hit the ball, he wasn’t thinking fair or foul.

“I never thought it was going to hit the pole,” the Reds shortstop said. “I was thinking it was clearly fair.”

    It wasn’t clearly fair.

    But it was fair.

Cabrera’s drive to lead off the 10th inning hit the foul pole in left field to give the Reds a 5-4 victory over the New York Mets at Great American Ball Park Wednesday afternoon.

“We need to play good games against good teams like this,” Cabrera said. “This is a good matchup for us. We learn a lot, especially when we come out with a victory in the series. It’s a positive thing for us. We just have to keep the momentum for Friday and win the first game of that series against the Cubs.”
