Cal-Berkley to retire Jason Kidd's number...

He is going to be the third person to have his number retired by Cal. I can only remember Kevin Johnson off the top of my head. I read this in a newspaper article today (Tri-Valley Herald). I'll try to find a link.

    *edit* Here's the article: http://www.trivalleyherald.com/Stories/0,1...1715044,00.html

He is the first to be honored without having graduated from the university, but Kidd's impact on the Cal program in his two seasons is undeniable. </div>

I was reading the same paper where I heard this story a few days ago and there was an article about why it is actually a shame that Jason Kidd is having his jersey retired. It goes on to explain how past Cal legends don't have their jerseys retired when they made a greater impact for the school championships wise and just playing level wise. It really is a shame that Kidd, who only spent two years at Cal and had no real tourny success, gets his jersey retired ahead of legends at Cal such of Bob McKeen (who passed away with bitterness over his jersey not being retired), Darryl Imhoff, etc.

I don't think any jerseys of players who leave early should ever be retired(with the exception of a few like Magic Johnson's). Do you think Abdur-Rahim will have his jersey retired ahead of McKeen and Imhoff?

For the sake of the image of Cal they better not. They are receiving somewhat of a backlash for retiring Kidd's number already, imagine what it will be if they retire Rahim's- who has done even less than what Kidd did.

The word around Berkeley is that Ben Braun is using this as a recruiting move to boast recent success of the Cal program (that being said it wouldn't necessarily be a shock to see Rahim's retired). He even scheduled the ceremony during the time in which Kidd will be in L.A. for the all-star game. There's just a lot of things wrong with this...

Kidd becomes the third Golden Bear men's player to receive the tribute, joining guard Kevin Johnson (#11) and forward Alfred Grigsby (#4).</div>

Who is this Al Grigsby? Wow not too surprising, he truly is a great player. Glad to see him getting some more of the hype, props and recognition he deserves. One of which he proves and values to us every single time we seem him play. He's gonna be Top 100, mark my words. Again congratulations Jason Kidd! Keep up the good work and hard effort as always!
