I don't cringe when our bench players come in. I don't worry about a lead evaporating, or a defecit growing. When our reserves are up against another team's bench, I don't see it as a mismatch. I have confidence in T-Rob and Joel's ability to hold court against the other front line. I believe that Mo and CJ can go shot for shot with opposing backcourts. I trust our bench. Who's with me?
I'm really encouraged by what we've seen from the bench the last few games. Having another scorer in CJ has made a world of difference. I think that this group can continue to grow together and become a very solid bench. I guess the big question is whether they're good enough for a deep playoff run this year. To me, it seems like I'd rather let them go as far as they can this year, even if it's not all the way to the finals, rather than trying to engineer a trade for an experienced player and give up on some of the talent of the young guys.
Still half a season to go for them to learn, improve, and develop chemistry. Need to get them the experience they need. CJ was the missing piece, but they all can improve. And they are. I'm suddenly optimistic about the bench (again).
I have said all along that individually the talent was there for a decent bench. It was always a question of them playing well together. And they are getting better. But it still comes down to the PG. He needs to be a steady force for the bench to succeed. As good as Mo was Saturday, he was not last night. He is best when he pushes it up the floor in a hurry, then takes the shot when it is there, but backs off if there isn't. Where he gets into trouble is when he forces bad passes. I think he is good for this team, I just think the bench as a whole needs more time. They need to continue to get better.
The added scorer in CJ has definitely helped. Trobb said after a game (I think the wolves games) that having CJ in their allows him and Freeland to be more free to play their games instead of worrying about trying to score. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
