I had no idea that Maris was not in the Baseball Hall of Fame. That's a complete crock of shit.

How is it a complete crock of shit that he isn't in the Hall of Fame? His entire career isn't HOF worthy, to be honest. He is recognized within the hall because of his one great season, but that doesn't mean he should be in the hall. I mean, would you put Cecil Fielder in the hall of fame?

I suppose I should have prefaced my opinion on Maris with my companion opinion that Baseball is a dead sport with irrelevent cultural impact and it's supposed "Hall of Fame" is just a marketing tool. Once upon a time, it was "The Great American Game", but time, society, and money have destroyed whatever was good about it in the first place.

Maris was back-to-back AL MVP in 60 and 61 (when there were other players around named Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, and Whitey Ford), he was a three-time champion, and he won a Gold Glove back when that award meant something. The Fielder comparison is laughable.

I'd put Maris in the Hall.

I'd also restore his rightful home run record. I'd keep out and expunge all the records of any player that took enhancing drugs (except viagra for their off time, of course).

Well, Willie Mays was in the NL, and Yogi Berra was 35 by then, so not sure the point of their inclusion on your list. Regardless, That's not a hall of fame resume. That's 2 good years. And he was extremely close to Mantle in the voting for both of those awards. I threw up Fielder there half joking, but he had similar career numbers. Finished 2nd in back to back years for MVP. Multiple time All star. Setting a record doesn't put you in the hall, sorry.

Well, then much the same way every player currently is questioned, we could question why he saw such a large spike in his performance, without coming close to those levels again. We can also throw out everyone from that era that used amphetamines as little pick me ups to get them through the season. Since we don't know who was or wasn't using the "greenies", we should assume guilt, I suppose. So no sense including Maris' record in the books. Added to the extra games he got over the Babe, we shoudl give it back to Ruth.

I agree. Baseball records are meaningless, much like the game itself.

Meaningless enough for you to give a shit about who's in the hall of fame. Weird.

Note to self: RR7's weak spot is his irrational defense of Baseball. File away knowledge for use in future flamewars.

How am I irrationally defending baseball?

I am defending who is in their HOF. I don't see what exactly is irrational in my reply. You said it is a complete crock of shit that he isn't in the hall of fame, but then express how meaningless baseball is to you, so I was just curious why something so meaningless to you even garners a look or response online, let alone a held opinion of being a crock of shit? But yeah, whatever. Hold on to shit for "flame wars". Yippee.

Some OK points, but I'll stand by what I say as sufficient enough.

    PS- Ban the DH.

I'd be up for banning the DH, being an NL fan, but with the amount of big money players playing the position in the AL, and the ability for the position to extend the careers of some players, there's no chance the MLBPA would ever go for it, IMO.
