Just reported on Sirius XM (NHL channel/war room) that Cally has been traded for St Louis. No details on the additional picks, etc....

TSN adding that we also gave Tampa a 2014 2nd and a 2015 first

for 1 in 2015 and 2 round picks in 2014. Again don't like giving up such high picks but whatever.

That is exactly why we have one cup in 74 years. This insane, 1st and 2nd for 39 year old. Only Sather can do this.

Sad to see him go but it was the smart move. He'll be missed but this is good for the long term. Boy is this team different from 2 years ago. I sure hope we make another move to bring in someone with size and toughness.

Rest of cally trade just announced if rangers reach elf 2014 2nd becomes a 1 and if cally resigns in tb we get tb 2nd next year. Reports out of tampa have stamkos drinking heavily somewhere after finding out the news

    Its a big price

The way I see this nobody wanted Cally since he wants a ridiculous $6.5m x 6

    So.....

He was going to walk for free

Sather can get the 2nd back and I bet he will in a separate trade

The 1st rounder stings and St Louis is old but he is still playing at a high level

I would rather have St Louis minus the 1st rounder then Cally for 6 years @ 6.5m

BTW, if Cally comes to his senses in the offseason I can still see a scenario where he comes back and signs here although that might be unlikely

Dis, those trades will be high 20's for kids that will be 4 years away. Rather have a star like St. Louis who can put the puck in the net. Have a feeling Sather is only getting started today

Don't like giving up the picks for a 38/39yo. Yes, he's still playing well, but he is old and does not fit in the future plans for this team. Upgrade in talent short-term for sure.

Honestly I don't care that St Louis is 38. He is an anomaly. He played at a high level last year at 37 and plays at a high level this year at 38. He is also NOT a rental and you can probably get 2 MORE years after next year of him at a good level of play 60 pts or more AND he prob wont break the bank either another $5.5m deal per year.

It would have been nice to get St Louis for Cally + a 2nd but so be it. Given the situation with Cally I like this trade. Also at least Sather is trying to improve the team, something he has failed to do in previous years. .

Dis, this is a win-now move which is something i wanted to see, so i don't have much to complain about, but just don't like seeing 1st rd picks gone for players who are only near-term.

So now Stepan is the only RH shooting forward we have with any skill (Dorsett is the other). I'd like to see that addressed as it makes us too predictable offensively since one -timers can only come from 1 area of the ice.

People were gonna bitch if Sather resigned him, now people are bitching that we traded too much for him.

St. Louis is a freak. We just got the reigning scoring champ for almost 1m less per year than what our third line captain wanted. I'm surprised it took a 2nd pick but such is life. We have McIlrath and Miller ready to take spots, Duclair coming up nicely, Skjei ready to be a puck moving dman. How many prospects do you guys want?

This sets up a nice 3 or 4 year window. Get some size in the offseason or even later today and this shapes up nicely. I like dump's idea of Fraser from boston.

Yeah its risky for sure and St Louis as skilled as he is also very small but I still love it.

More move needed. I have concerns about Mr Sensitive Kesler fitting in NY even though it sounds like he is open to it now.

Well, guess they figure with St. Louis the draft picks will be a lot lower. Let's face it. They can always trade a player down the line to get picks. It's not hard to do. Buffalo has traded a lot of guys who IMO weren't all that good and got 1st and 2nd round picks. Cally got what he deserved with his stupid greed.

I haven't seen that Kesler change of heart reported anywhere, is it true?

Yeah, if anybody had any doubts about St. Louis just check him out from last year's ESPN Body Issue. He has 4 years left easy

Bottom line was I was against giving Callahan that contract from day one. I'm glad they didn't give it to him. Miller is ready to stick on this team. Lindberg is ready to make the team. So is McIlrath with limited minutes IMO. Duclair is one the fast track. Skjei should be a pro in 3 years. Fast has a real chance of making the team. The roster has a lot of young players. Guess they figured there weren't a lot of openings so the draft picks weren't a big concern.
