One thing I don't think I have seen is that Marcus would be a great addition to re-sign next year. He's a perfect backup PF for Alrdidge, and insurance for Greg and Joel.
No doubt. If they want to pay more than anyone else, he will be back. I would pay 6 million a year for 2 years.
Camby said in a TV interview before the clipper game (LA station) that the Blazers immediately made it clear that he was NOT a rental.
Good to hear. Camby may only have a couple of strong seasons left in him, but it is worthwhile for the team to keep an open mind.
he is currently making 9mil a year. that is quite a lot for back up PF and Center insurance. If Joel were to leave though...
Camby > Joel. And if he's here, I think he starts opening night...need to ease Oden back in. Camby is starting quality of at least through the end of next season.
who cares if he gets paid alot, we arent sniffing cap room for a decade. and he will be a sweet expiring whenever.
Not to mention the toughness that Camby gives us. He's a player who won't take shit from anyone and watches out for his guys.
As I see it, Marcus is way too valuable of an asset to let walk away next summer. In addition to providing insurance against the kind of injury situation the Blazers faced this year, signing him provides future options of either trading Camby at some point in the future or trading Joel. They're a demand position and have the kind of salary size that would let KP maneuver for a near-max player at some point down the line.
...and Joel is going to be expiring after next season (assuming he takes his player option which I think it's probably a given he will). Camby will be a popular guy in the summer though...
Yep. When/if all 3 are healthy, the Blazers would be in great shape for swinging a significant trade. That was why last year I kept saying KP should push to take advantage of the Chandler-to-OKC deal falling apart.
I'll go along with that. Even though Joel is younger, if I had to choose between those two.. I'd definitely keep Camby. Actually.. that is a no brainer. One has been the DPOY, an NBA All-Defense, and annual leader in blocks and boards while Joel -- although been great and is a fan favorite -- is not at the level Camby is. Keep Camby around!!
Funny that Camby is finally a Blazer. His name has been mentioned in rumors with the Blazers for years. When Sabonis left and we had his contract to trade, I remember hearing Camby being offered up for Sabonis (why we said no, I'll never know - I guess it likely had to do with the fact Camby was going through some nagging injuries at that time). I believe that wasn't the first time he was rumored to be headed this way, and it certainly wasn't his last. I've seen people noting his age, but the guy certainly hasn't been playing his age. Like another poster said earlier today, this deal may go down as the biggest deal made at this year's deadline, no small feat given how busy it was. Anyhow, I've long admired Camby's play, and am glad he's here. Funny after years of rumors that he's finally a Blazer.
I've been saying it since we first made the trade. I think Camby can easily swing between both front court spots, which makes him more valuable than Joel. I also think Camby will get more respect from the officials than Joel has over his career. I would like to see us re-sign Camby this summer and look to move Joel with either Rudy or Martell.
Tonight, Nate said don't be surprised if, at certain times, we see Camby, Howard, and Aldridge on the court together with LaMarcus playing the 3.
That lineup really doesn't make any sense to me. I don't see any need to play LMA at the three. We've got Batum and Webster, and there should be more than enough minutes to split between Howard, Camby, and Aldridge at power forward and center.
I can see keeping Camby, too. Though I think it'd be better to re-sign Camby and enter the season with LA, Camby, Joel, and Greg for the two frontcourt positions. Wait until close to the deadline - if all are healthy, you move one. If not, you've maintained your depth while losing a player to injuries.
I'm worried there aren't enough minutes to keep all those guys happy. If you have Camby coming off the bench at both front court spots, he logs nearly starter minutes. If you have both Joel AND Camby, it's harder to keep either one of them happy. While I've always liked Joel's game, I think Camby is the superior player, and he can play both the four and the five. Joel will have an expiring contract next year (pending his not opting out this summer), which I think will give him a little bit more value. I'd like to see a package that sends Joel, Rudy, and maybe Martell for a star-quality small forward. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ylp74sf Miller/Bayless/Mills Roy/Bayless/Iggy Iggy/Batum/Cunningham Aldridge/Camby/Cunningham Oden/Camby/Pender
