Camby's Revenge

It has been anticipated it will be a revenge game when Marcus Camby faces the Nuggets for the first time.
A love fest could be more accurate.
Camby, who has a bruised right heel, didn't play for the Clippers in their preseason finale Friday against the Nuggets. Instead, he spent much of his time kibitzing with his former teammates.
At halftime, he took shots with Nuggets players at Denver's basket in between exchanging smiles and laughs with this former teammates. Late in the game, during a timeout, Nuggets forward Linas Kleiza came over to the Clippers huddle and he and Camby engaged in friendly banter.
On Thursday, Camby had gone to dinner with Nuggets center Nene and about a half-dozen Denver coaches and staff members. Camby, who criticized the Nuggets for trading him last July but lately has been much more subdued about the move, picked up the tab.
"That might be overblown,'' Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said after his team's 106-92 loss about how fired up Camby will be when he faces the Nuggets for the first time. "He's too close to their players type of thing. You almost have to not like their guys type of thing.''
The Clippers play host to the Nuggets next Friday in the second game of the regular season. But it's looking more and more likely Camby won't play due to the heel injury that kept him out the entire preseason.
If that's the case, Camby's revenge game against his former team won't be until Nov. 26 in Los Angeles.
Or maybe that will be his love-fest game.
DUNLAP STAYS ASSISTANT _ There were reports former Nuggets assistant Mike Dunlap turned down a chance to succeed Lute Olson and be Arizona's interim head coach, although athletic director Jim Livengood said Dunlap wasn't offered that position. So Dunlap remains an Arizona assistant.
Nuggets coach George Karl said he hasn't talked to Dunlap since all the commotion started Thursday, but hopes to soon.
"Mike's a smart guy,'' Karl said. "I don't think he needs a head job. I think he likes good jobs. He thinks things through. I'm sure he had solid interpretations and reasons that he would rather just stay an assistant.''
HOPING ON COBY _ Karl is a bit nervous these days. No, not because of anything his Nuggets have done. He's wondering whether his son, Coby, will survive the Lakers' final cut.
The Lakers are down to 15 players, the maximum they can keep. But they might decide to get down to 14 by Monday's deadline by letting Coby, a second-year man, go.
"I don't know,'' Karl said of whether his son will make the team. "I think they're still evaluating salary, rosters.''
Karl attended the Lakers' preseason game Thursday against Charlotte in Anaheim, Calif. Karl got plenty of face time on TNT, which broadcast the game, and Coby totaled eight points, four rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes.
"He played very well,'' said Karl, obviously hoping it wasn't the final time he saw his son in a Lakers uniform.
