Doesn't matter what kind. I'll take earbuds, big dj-style ones, earclips, whatever I listen to RnB, hip-hop, country, rock, old stuff...almost everything. I'll be using it on my laptop, iPod nano, and PSP.
Here we go again! It matters what kind, because if they aren't comfortable, you won't use them. Where you will be listening to them, will there be a lot of noise? Are you worried about bothering other people with your loud music? How important is portability? Would you like to be able to put them in your pocket?
This isnt exactly what you asked for, but I recently took a 2nd job listening to phone calls and because of my kids, I had to buy some noise-defeaning headaphones....since, I have used them for music and theres no comparison....I paid $90 for mine and they are fantastic....they are Panasonics and I got them through Amazon.com....if you have the means, I highly recommend spending a little bit more and getting noise-defeaning over the ear headphones....

By myself, with a bunch of people around. I'm not worried about bothering other people with loud music. Portability is a plus, and I wouldn't mind being able to put them in my pocket...but I also wouldn't mind sacrificing that for better quality. I'm extremely flexible when it comes to headphones. Doesn't matter what kind they are, as long as I like em and they work good.
And what is your feeling about sticking things into your ear canal? The benefit of this is great noise isolation (even better than that "noise cancelling" stuff") and you can really get into your music. There are also lots of different kinds for every budget that sound very good. These are very portable. The drawback is that not everyone is comfortable with them for long stretches and they are no good if you are running, biking or gathering the carts in the supermarket parking lot.

They always end up falling out...even if I'm not moving. So I try to stay away from those.
Well, I'll start with my favorite pocket headphones, the Yuin PK3. These are earbuds, but they sound incredible. (Unusual for earbuds) These have a better cord than the ones I have. Great if you are used to earbuds but just want them to sound better. I can't recommend them highly enough. These are extremely comfortable and low maintenance. I lost them for a few days and I was lost, and I have several pairs of portable phones that cost a lot more.
The king of cheap headphones is the Koss KSC-75. These have a lifetime guarantee. If you break them, Koss will replace them no questions asked. They sound extremely good. They are comfortable, but I always had trouble getting the fit right with the earclips. I solved that problem this way, which was fun, but not necessary to enjoy the great sound these have right out of the box. These are great for running. They leak sound like a seive. Everyone nearby will enjoy your music.

These are buds and iems and they are on sale for $20 off the regular price. Great pegs, you cost me 60 bucks.
I cost you $60? Not my fault! Blame...Shake! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (R-Star)</div><div class='quotemain'>You're kind of like MacGuyver ghoti.</div>
Aright, here's a request: Most durable, best quality dj-style headphones (looking sorta like that) Most durable, best quality clip-on headphones Most durable, best quality earbud headphones
These are good headphones, and I don't know how you can beat the price. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HAFX33A-Marshmallow-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B000IS1ZYY/ref=pd_bxgy_e_text_b" target="_blank"> JVC Marshmallows.</a>
These kick all kinds of ass. I have these and they are great. They are more comfortable but less isolating than the AKG. They also make you look cool. They fold so you can carry them in a coat pocket. (They aren't too bad around your neck, either.) Those are the best choices anywhere near your price range. The AKG are very popular. Both of these sound great, but not as good as the Yuins. (And not really better than the KSC-75, which sound incredible for the price.)

They are actually $30 of with free shipping and have a cable long enough for me to put my player in my damn pocket! (And they are an upgrade over PK3. These should sound really amazing.)
I hate the Marshmallows. My ex had em, they were so ugly and pretty crappy quality. Some of the best quality/value headphones I ever got were these: But the cord proved to be shitty and it broke very quickly The last ones I dealt with were very similar to the Sony ones. I can't even find a picture of them. They were Panasonic, and I was disappointed with the quality. They were also not durable at all and broke very quickly as well. I'm sort of leaning towards these: I'm thinking that maybe getting bigger headphones may cause me to be more careful with them, and cause me to refrain from putting them in my pocket Keep in mind, I'm a college kid trying to salvage money
Those Sony MDR-Vxxx series are very poorly received. I'd stay away from them. I had the "good" Sony DJ headphones (V6) a long time ago and they were very hot and uncomfortable. Sennheiser 201s are full-size and supposedly very good, though I've never heard them. They are very inexpensive as well.
Get your broke ass $99 and buy these Allessandro MS-1. These I have. You will cry with joy that you spent the extra dough. They are tough, light, impossible to wear out, sound great out of every source and with every kind of music or game.
