<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">January 22, 2006 -- COULD the Knicks really be (finally!) virtually ze roed in on acquiring Jalen Rose? Despite long-term contention over Isiah Thomas' demand for a No. 1 pick (Denver's) from Toronto in a proposed deal involving Penny Hardaway, that's what I'm hearing from a reliable source. It's unclear which team is willing to compromise, probably both, meaning the pick figures to be lottery-protected, maybe through as low as eight, something along those coordinates. Oddly enough, the apparent Rose ($15.6M and $16.9M) breakthrough coincides with a turnaround in trade talk with the Blazers. Sources on both coasts reveal Portland, in the midst of a four-game win streak, abruptly reversed its position to cling to Theo Ratliff because Joel Przybilla is a rising free agent, and offered Larry Brown the defensive inside presence he's been seeking since the season began. Adding irony to irony, New York declined Ratliff ($11.67M with two more at the same number) and Ruben Patterson ($6.35M and $6.8M) for Penny ($15.7M). Who says money ain't a thing to Camp Cablevision? Penny hasn't been this unpopular since Tara Banks dumped him in a shoe commercial. The demand for him not to be part of any team is reaching epic proportion.</div> New York Post Yes, again ... Jalen Rose to the Knicks rumors. But if this does go it'll be a good move if we get that first round pick of Denver's. The Nuggets are struggling now and with their constant injury problems they could very well end up with a pick in the 15-20 range, maybe even lower depending on when my boy Marcus returns to the lineup. Maybe we can package our 29th pick with Denver's pick (say 17) for a pick in the lottery? Now, Rose is what he is ... vesatile, a good shooter, a good scorer in the 4th quarter, and an awful defender, who takes some bad shots. With that said, he'll be better than Penny Hardaway. Also, his contract is only a year longer, so right after Penny expires, we have another expiring contract to look forward to. On to Portland: That deal for Ratliff and Patterson is awful. They better sweeten it up with something else. The Knicks need a shotblocker, but I'm sure we can find one halfway decent that doesn't make 11.3 million over the next three years. I don't like Ruben Patterson. He's a big time headcase, can't shoot, and is way overpaid. Unless we're getting something else in the deal, I say no.
You want the Denver pick? Give us Ariza. Otherwise no logic of throwing out the pick with Jalen for Penny.

The New York Post reported yesterday that the Raptors and New York Knicks could be closing in on a long-rumoured deal that would send the ever-improving Rose and the Denver Nuggets' first-round pick this year (likely protected) for the expiring contract of Penny Hardaway. There is another rumour floating out there linking the teams to a multiple-player, pick deal. Knicks forward Trevor Ariza's name has been mentioned and New York could have interest in Raptors point guard Mike James, who is playing the best basketball of his career. </div> http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Basketbal...407415-sun.html
Hardaway and Ariza for Rose and Denver's pick sounds like a good idea to me! At the moment Denver I believe is in the lottery and any player that is drafted from 1-20 will likely be better than Ariza. As for Ratliff why are we even considering him? He makes way too much and provides too little. If we're going to give up an expiring contract and take on more years we might as well get a quality player. How about Antonio Davis for Carlos Boozer? I believe Utah is getting tired of Boozer and his contract already so we might be able to get him for an expiring contract. How does that sound? Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting MrJ:</div><div class="quote_post">Tribute is alive!</div> Yes indeed I am alive. Did you miss me? Sorry about my long hiatus. Towards the end of the year I had alot of stuff to take care of and I just fell out of the habit of posting on here. But do not fear I have returned and I know you missed me and my fire Isiah rants. But back to the topic at hand. Penny and Ariza for Rose and Denver's pick is a fair trade. We'll get more production from Rose than were getting from Hardaway and Denver's pick will almost certainly bring back a better player than Ariza. And as always I'm wary of trading an expiring contract for more salary and more years but if we must do such a thing how about trading Davis for Boozer? Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.
Great to see you posting again. It?s been kind of queit around here. I?m not the biggest Carlos Boozer fan. He?s way too injury prone. He missed 31 games last season and already missed 42 games this season. So, he?s not really a reliable investment. He?s an atrocious defender that will only make things worse for us in the inside. Curry will probably rack up more fouls than he already does. I like his rebounding and scoring skills, but that?s about it. Also, at power forward we have Frye there and that will probably slow down his development. The only player I like from the Jazz are Andrei Kirilenko and Deron Williams and we have no chance of getting any of them.

I'm also concerned about his injuries problems as well but make no mistake when healthy he'll be better than any of our current big men. He's a far superior player to Antonio Davis and he could very well make our frontline one of the better frontcourts in the East. I'm not sure but I was under the impression that he was a good defender. When you say he's not worth the investment are you referring to Davis's paltry five points per game? As for Frye's development, he's already coming off the bench behind Antonio Davis so I dont see how much more his development will be affected. Frye's weak defense and rebounding skills will keep him coming off the bench as long as Larry Brown is in charge and besides he'll get the necessary amount of time needed to improve considering the way Jerome James has turned out so far. Like I said I dont think I want to take his contract but if Isiah is hell bent on improving this team in the short term rather than the long term then he should look into acquiring Boozer for Davis instead of trying to get Ratliff. Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.
