Hi people, I've not had a chance to follow March Madness before but there are gonna be loads of games on TV here so I'd appreciate if people could tell me about how the whole tourney works. How do teams qualify? I assume it's not like the NBA, but I really don't know. What's "bracketology" and what are these "regional" things I hear about? Also, what is RPI? Last question (I promise ): for people who follow college ball a lot, how do you get a feel for all the teams (as there are LOADS), or is that impossible? Thanks .
explain There is a selection commitee that places the NCAA D-1 teams into 4 different regions of a 64 team tournamant two team play each other for the 64th spot. The four best teams are all given one seeds and so on.... They play one game with the winner advancing (see digram below for the 2003 bracket) at the end you are left with one team. The selection comitee take the teams record, RPI (will explain in a minute) and poll position into account when seeding. RPI stands for rating percentage index...RPI takes record, and strength of schedual into account. I hope I answered your questions.
