Assuming they would come here, are we under the cap? Can we sign Boozer if he is amnestied, or Bynum when the Bulls waive him?

They both can be signed for vet minimum if they clear waivers.

I bet Boozer won't clear waivers.

Not interested in Bynum, not in the least.

Boozer for the vet minimum? Even though I hate the guy, yes, please...

No interest in either. Lopez+Robinson+CJ for Joakim Noah though?

I probably wouldn't do that except seeing Brooke have foot surgery bothers me in the back of my mind.

We would be getting one of the best defensive centers in the league back for a decent starting center and two prospects. How is that a Hell no! deal?

I wouldn't trade Darius Miles for Joakim Noah.

    I would!

The "Oh hell no" has more to do with Lopez. He has become our true anchor for chemistry. I think he is at the "untradable" level right now. At least so far.

We are over the cap and have used all available (non-Vet-min) exceptions. When Bynum is waived (since no one is taking on his full salary, he will pass through waivers) he will be UFA and will be eligible to sign with anyone for the vet minimum or any team using their existing cap space.

Amnesty is a different thing. It goes in 3 tiers, basically. Once a player is waived by anmesty, he goes into a modified waiver process. Teams have the ability to make the following bids:
    1) Full claim. The team has to have the cap space to accept his entire 15.3M salary this year, and is on the hook for the 16.8M next year. No one has enough cap space to do this (PHI has the most, with about 10M)
    2) Partial claim. A team cap use whatever cap space they have between a "minimum partial bid" (in Boozer's case, 2 years of the vet minimum or 2.8M, of which 1.4M in cap room has to be available toward this year's cap) and their max cap space. Highest dollar amount wins.
    3) No bid. In this case, once the player clears waivers he is a UFA just like regular waivers.

Coon CBA #67 talks more about amnesty

BlazerBeav is right. Amnesty's only available in the 7 days after the moratorium.

Is it true that he can't be amnestied until July?

None of the players mentioned in this thread would improve the team in the slightest.

We have a full team with no obvious weaknesses other than an inexperienced bench. Stand pat, spread out the PT, and enjoy.

Then why would we even bring this up? There will be a lot of teams that will have cap space this July. There is absolutely zero chance he clears all waivers. The second tier will easily pick him up because he's worth that amount.

While the chemistry is important Noah is so much more talented in every facet of the game. He has also always gotten along with his teammates and has been a + chemistry guy in his time in Chicago. He's an enforcer. He's everything most fans have asked for for years. Lopez is a nice player but no player should be untradeable. If Miami wanted to give us LeBron for LMA and Dame It would be a no brainer despite our chemistry. Talent trumps Chemistry every time, especially if the guy you are adding is a good chemistry guy.

Tell that to Brooklyn and New York. Or how about the Lakers last season? If I were to tell you that Kobe, Howard, Gasol and Nash are your starting 5, according to your logic, they would be hands down favorites for the championship.

This is why people like you aren't the GM and the Olshey's are running winning ball-clubs

EVERY team has weaknesses. Our bench is inexperienced? We have 11 year veteran Mo Williams, Joel Freeland is only in his second year in the NBA but he has played pro ball overseas for years and Dorell Wright is in his 10th year. No one else is seeing significant minutes on the bench except for Leonard/Robinson. We need bench scoring badly, which CJ SHOULD help with but no guarantees until he actually starts playing. Our center that so many seem to be scared to trade is a terrible defender when pulled out of the paint. Batum has more turnovers than anyone else on the team. We've been extremely lucky with injuries so far as well, none of our major guys have had to really miss time yet. You NEVER stand pat or you will watch teams start passing you by.
