The Lakers have been perfect since the All-Star Break, but the other top teams out West have also been winning. Is there enough season for the Lakers to earn the #1 seed in the West? We are currently 5 games out, but here's a look at the next 5 games for the top 4 seeds out West. Lakers next 5 games ------ @DEN SAC @WAS @NJ @ATL Spurs next 5 games ------ HOU @ DAL DEN MEM SEA T-Wolves next 5 games ------ @MIL NJ GS @PHI DAL Kings next 5 games ------ NY @LAL UTA PHX LAC
I think it is definately possible but I do not think it will happen. The Lakers don't play with enough urgency in the regular season and are just content with making the playoffs. If they do get the first seed...watch out.
If anyone is to defeat Lakers in the playoffs this year they will need homecourt advantage If Lakers manage to get the first seed then as Rude said "watch out"
It is a possibility and the Lakers should be able to get it as long as they play up to their potential. However like many seasons in the past, they seem to underachieve during the season and I don't think they will end up with it yet again. I think they'll most likely end up with the #3 seed behind San Antonio and Sacramento.
It's possible, five games isn't that many, but it's going to be awefully hard to jump over all of those teams. I think the third seed would be great, that's the best they can do unless they end up with the best record. I'd like to see a first-round matchup with Dallas, that would be the ideal match up in my opinion.
Lakers CAN get first seed, but the need Malone back soon and they can't drop easy games. Every game counts towards home court advantage!!!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Phreeze:</div><div class="quote_post"> I think they'll most likely end up with the #3 seed behind San Antonio and Sacramento.</div> I think they will pass up Sactown and San Antone but I think Minnesota is the dangerous one. I am not concerned about San Antone (we have way more talent than they do IMO) Sactown is dangerous, but C-webb could screw up their chemestry..it will be an interesting and down to the wire race!
Over the course of the season if we continue to play well, and if were healthy enough then it's a possibility. If Lakers keep playing like they have been these last 4 games, they will eventually make up ground and at least finish in the top 3. Lakers at home in the playoffs, with a healthy lineup, that's a dream come true.
I think it is very possible that the Lakers can get the top seed. Espeically if Kobe and Shaq keep playing well. And, not sure if they'd do it, but, there is a free agent out there named Vin Baker that could really help the Lakers right now. They need a PF cause, really, Horace Grant and Medvenko just can't cut it for them right now. I think that Baker would be a great help. Plus, when Malone comes back, he'll have a great back up. Now, like I said, not sure if it will happen, but, it would be a great acquistion. But, if they keep playing like they are right now, they don't really need a PF. Would really help though.

Is their ever a time where he touches the ball, and doesn't shoot it? Is this guy ever aware of anything that goes on the court? Can he make a layup? Slava is really starting to get on my nerves lately, and come playoff time we definetley don't have time to put guys like him and Grant in who will produce nearly nothing. Adding Vin Baker, and possibly Rodman, wouldn't be the worst idea in the world, I know shape made a topic about it, you guys can continue it in there.

I mean, can't this guy ever shoot with accuracy? Luckily, his starting role is very temporary. When Karl gets back healthy, we wouldn't have to put up with his nonsense again.
I think it's very possible for the Lakers to get the #1 seed. There's how many games left? 28 or so? If the Lakers can continue to play the way they've been playing for the last four games on a consistent basis, the sky's the limit for this team. Whenever these four teams appear on the Laker schedule, LA has to start circling these dates on a calendar, and come out with a statement performance.
I think they <u>CAN</u>, it will be hard, but they are playing great ball right now, and if they can continue that, They can.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting ANiMuS:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm glad other Laker fans are finally openly stating how much Slava sucks.</div> If you've watched him play at all the last few seasons you'd know Slava doesn't suck. The guy has talent, but he's just too inconsistent. With confidence this guy can put up points like crazy, where as without he seems to just throw up shots hoping they'll go in. Slava has been in a George-like slump, but you should know the guy has talent. He does shoot it way too often, and it seems like whenever he can he throws it up. The guy CAN shoot it from out there though, and after the first 20 games that he played everyone was praising that. He can shoot outside and can also score inside, he's good... just seems too inexperienced.
Lakers could win all those games except for NJ. Theyve been on fire letely. They will make #1 seed but not within the next 5 games.

He's poor at finishing around the basket (how tall is he again?), his defense is embarassing even for a Euro, and about the only time he can grab 10 rebounds is when the teammates around him are either short (Payton, Fisher), old (Grant), or scared of the paint (George). And we all know what he thinks his sole "responsibility" in the offense is. The only reason he even gets the playtime he does is because of the unfortunate shortage of guys over 230 lbs. Please don't let the fact that you're a Laker fan prevent you from making a realistic observation.
