"In what is becoming a holiday tradition, the Montreal Canadiens played a home game at the Nassau Coliseum.

Technically, the New York Islanders were the home team Sunday night but, if the ambience fell short of a game at the Bell Centre, it was at least as spirited as an intra-squad game in Brossard.

A blizzard kept many of the local fans huddled in their homes and the result was that the majority of the 3,136 fans were sporting Canadiens jerseys. The visitors filled the arena with chants of "Go Habs go!" during the warmup and accompanied the arena organist with a spirited French rendition of O Canada.

The scenario was similar to the Dec. 19 game here last year, but the result was different. Last year, the Canadiens were 3-0 winners and they went to post a 6-1 record on their holiday road trip.

But the crowd support failed to do the job Sunday night as the Canadiens finished on the short end of a 4-1 count and fell to 1-3 on their current trip. They have lost six of the last eight games."
