I agree that they should make the half court line more visible (easy fix). Other than that, I was at the first game and I love the new court, it looks awesome (and that picture doesn't do it justice). Canzano is just a crybaby constantly seeking attention; god forbid someone does something different and original. May the court last for 84 years!!! It's an exciting time to be a Duck Basketball fan, I might even consider season tickets in the next year or two. The Ducks went from having one of the worst arenas in the country to one of the best, and that will certainly help recruiting. Deep down I still wish Ernie Kent was here, but I'm willing to give Dana Altman a chance; he seems like a decent guy.
I for one will miss the insanity of Mac Court. I doubt the new arena will ever capture the same atmosphere. As for the program itself - the new court may distract the fans for awhile, but 10th out of 10 teams is hard to disguise.
I hate to agree with Crapzano, but I dont like it either. I watched about 10 minutes of the game vs UCLA today on CSN and the court looks horrible on TV. Worst court in basketball history. I wouldnt be surprised if they change it in the offseason... and least get rid of some of the glare.
I really enjoyed games at Mac court for the on top of the players atmosphere too, but I don't think it's endearing old quirks played that well for perspective recruits... I'm thinking the plan is for the new facilities to actually help bring the program up from the dead. STOMP
on the heals of my previous post... http://highschoolsports.oregonlive....chool-hoops-could-get-jolt-from-new-uo-arena/ The arena could be a draw not only for Oregon teams, but for out-of-state teams that feature blue-chip recruits. And exposing high-caliber players to the arena could be a recruiting bonus for the Ducks. “That, more than anything, is the whole key to it,” Hancock said. “I think that's a great selling point for them to back it. You could bring in some drawing cards with kids that are NCAA-type athletes. If a kid has been to Matt Knight Arena, and Oregon talks to them down the road because they're interested in them, that kid will remember it.” STOMP
I didn't see the opening night game, but heard on the radio that it was unwatchable because of the TV lights glaring off of the court... True? Ed O.
True. I couldn't watch it. Between the glare and the floor design I had a hard time following the action.
