i genuinely think quick would be perfect for this role. he is at his best when he's writing personal interest stories. not sure if the Athletic has more juice with the national audience, though.

I don't like Quick much but i agree he could replace Canzano.

Can you imagine if they replaced him with someone who had an analytical mind and who actually knew more than the average fan?

Sadly, neither can I. We will likely be afflicted with another poison-pen-gossip- columnist.

Does he promise to stop intentionally lying to me (and I'm sure to others) in emails?

Does he promise to stop making up "facts" in order to construct a better argument?

Does he promise to admit when he makes mistakes, like when he wrote that the Blazers could trade Raef LaFrentz anytime they wanted to after the trade deadline?

If not, then I'll just continue to ignore him. Thank you.

I write a column for a living and have for over 20 years. Columnists are my world and what I have to say is that:

Canzano is a fine writer (if a little shmaltzy and gimmicky.) He is passionate, and that's good. He loves his subject matter. He's great at making sports human.

But, for me at least, the bad outweighs the good. Too often, far too often, he makes himself part of the story ... or the whole story. That narcissism is jarring and always takes away from the point he is trying too make. He also clearly loves to be a shit stirrer for its own sake, seemingly so he will have something to write about in a town where, frankly, there are not a lot of sports stories. He also just doesn't know enough about what he spouts off about sometimes.

All in all, I am sad to say, I won't miss his stuff.

Kerry Eggers? Now there's a great sports columnist.

Funny thing is, had there not been a thread on here, I would have never known he was gone.

Do you have him on ignore?

No sir, I just don’t follow him or quick or Jayne or the Richman guy or any other local beat writers. Only guy I ever followed was Joe Freeman. Only local dude I respect. The only time I read a tweet by them is if they mention ME. Quick and Jaynes and I have gone at it in the past.

What about Geoffrey Arnold or Aaron Fentress?

Did he get fired or leave for other opportunities....lol

What about Geoffrey Arnold or Aaron Fentress?
Fentress was the guy who repeatedly, vehemently claimed that Olshey's signings in the summer of 2016 were good because he'd be able to convert them into players of need, despite everyone repeatedly pointing out that the players talents were far, far below market-value. I can't ever respect that guy's opinions.

Canzano can write and tell some good stories. But the misleading ones and manufactured drama he creates is far worse than the positives of what he tells. So I'm happy to pay no attention to him.

I think Quick is much better, more factual, and his opinions have more basis in logic and evidence. Biggest problem with his opinions, is they could be misinterpreted to be reporting of facts and events of the team. Still much better than Canzano or Jaynes, and I'd be fine if he took over any gaps left by those others.

Ben Golliver is pretty good, but for quite a while now he has reported on the whole NBA, not just the Blazers.

Also just seems like a brutal market for reporters, newspapers, writers, and media personalities. Unless you make it huge nationally as a Zach Lowe or Stephen A Smith I'm not sure these are super lucrative careers.

Do Quick, Canzano, or Jaynes even make six figures? Wouldn't be surprised if they were barely scraping by.

Heard Cronin traded Canzano to Golden State for a 2027 second round pick protected 1-54.

Arnold is good. Went to high school with Fentress, he doesn’t know anything any of us don’t already know.
Fentress come across a arrogant if you disagree with him, is he that way in your assessment?
