When the Blazers won in the 1977 season, there were no haters.

I'm sure there were; there was just no internet to give them a platform.

Aesthetically, a stadium in downtown looks beautiful.

Logistically it would be a nightmare. It's already horrible with the Blazers. I know that stadiums out in the middle of nowhere don't look as cool, but god it's nice to have ample parking surrounding the building.

I think getting to and from the stadium is more of the issue than actual parking itself. There are ways to deal with parking-- underground garages/ public transport, etc. But the surrounding roads need to actually be able to handle in the increase in traffic. And from my brief time back in PDX over the past few years, traffic management is nonexistent.

That's because this city has long believed that if they let traffic go to hell, people will turn to alternative transportation. Unfortunately they didn't build our mass transit infrastructure to handle the population increase, so it's not even a viable option. The Max is full during the morning and afternoon rush hour. They also want you to bike more, but housing prices have pushed people further and further out of the city. I can't bike from Hillsboro to downtown.

Plus Tri Met does a shitty job overall of servicing the suburbs. Last I looked, the last bus out of downtown to the southern ‘burbs is around 8 pm. So Tri Met would have to make some serious adjustments to all points in the PDX for night games. I still wish they had looked at the Fairview site, if for no other reason there are many arterial streets heading that direction that parallel I-84. They would likely “bleed off” traffic reasonably quickly.

Portland Reign (or "Rose City Reign"?)

Which name for each sport is the best?

I like the "Oregon Alders". Rolls off the tongue nicely. And the "Rose City Reign" would be the best team name in all of sports.

These all sound like arena teams.

I'm glad you thought my Swifts idea was alright. I wouldn't use that for any other sport. But, it fits Baseball so well. If Baltimore can use Orioles and St Loius can use Cardinals, then we can use Swifts dammit.

Edit. Forgot about Toronto Blue Jays.

You forgot the most obvious one.

    Portland Petunias.

The more I think about this whole thing, the more the phrase "too good to be true" comes to mind.

Not gonna happen. No way Portland provides adequate fan support for 81 games per year.

I like how you say that as if that's the reason it won't happen and that all you have to do is say it and you're somehow now an expert on it.

The majority of MLB teams draw under 30K a night (as of today, only 10 teams draw more than 30K a night).

And that includes in huge markets like San Diego, New York (Mets), Toronto, WDC, Philadelphia and Chicago.

Drawing fans won't be the issue.

The issue will be whether Stotts can manage a baseball team.
