<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Cardinals re-sign veteran cornerback TateBy Len PasquarelliESPN.comThe Arizona Cardinals have re-signed veteran cornerback Robert Tate to a one-year contract, a move that keeps him off the unrestricted free-agent market.Financial details were not yet available, but it is believed the one-year contract includes a base salary of $670,000, the league minimum for an eight-year veteran.Tate, 32, is a favorite of Cardinals coach Dennis Green, having played for him in Minnesota and with the Cardinals, primarily in a utilitarian role. But Green has confidence in Tate, who knows what is expected of him and who provides veteran leadership and savvy.Last season, Tate was released in the final wholesale roster cutdown just before the start of the season and then re-signed in late September, when the Cardinals suffered injuries at cornerback and Green felt he needed a player of Tate's ilk to help bolster the secondary. He appeared in 13 games and started five, notching 27 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defensed and also playing well on special teams.A former University of Cincinnati standout and onetime wide receiver, Tate was chosen by the Vikings in the sixth round of the 1997 draft. He spent five seasons in Minnesota (1997-2001), playing for Green, and then moved on to Baltimore in 2002. Tate was out of the league in 2003 and then signed with the Cardinals in 2004, where he was reunited with Green. In 108 appearances, including 28 starts, Tate has recorded 201 tackles, five interceptions, 35 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. He will likely vie in training camp for the No. 4 cornerback spot.Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com.</div>http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2329457
