FOX Sports - According to major-league sources, All-Star left fielder Carlos Lee rejected a four-year, $48 million contract offer from the Brewers on Thursday. Lee's rejecting of the offer increases the likelihood of the Brewers moving their all-star before the Monday trade deadline. The Twins, Tigers, Angels, Rangers, Cardinals, Dodgers and Astros are among the clubs expected to show interest in Lee, who could emerge as the most popular asset as the deadline winds down. The Brewers likely will seek young, major-league ready talent for Lee, who is tied for fifth in the National League with 28 homers and fifth with 81 RBIs. Lee will be a free agent after this season.
Carlos is a Ranger now.Lee, Nelson Cruz, and a player to be named later for RP Francisco Cordero, OF Kevin Mench, and OF Laynce Nix.
The Brewers also got Julian Cordero, another minor league prospect. This is unbelievable. Really, it is. This can definitely put the Rangers above the A's and Angels. Trading away Mench, Cordero, uh, Cordero, and Nix is nothing. Mench isn't anything special. He's not a liability with the bat, but he isn't anything near all-star talent. Co-Co Cordero has been awful as of late. His ERA is over 4, and the last game I saw him pitch was terrible. He wouldn't have ever been good again in a Rangers uniform. Nix is decent, but not great enough to do anything for us. And I don't know anything about Julian so that's the only thing I could see being a huge loss. Lee is easily better than these players combined... the only downside is the contract, of course. Hopefully he will put us over the top immediately.
its a smart move for the present. Jon Daniels has made a good move while only trading away players that werent doing much here. This will give us an other bat and hopefully will help the Rangers get to 1st in the AL West
