    It's not every day a manager intentionally puts the potential winning run on base in the ninth inning against a red-hot offense.

    Philadelphia rookie manager Ryne Sandberg did just that Saturday night against the Washington Nationals and went home a winner.

    Reliever Jonathan Papelbon retired Wilson Ramos on hard grounder to short and the Phillies held on for a 5-4 win over the Nationals, snapping Washington's seven-game winning streak.
