<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Vince Carter can become a free agent one week from today. Even if he opts out of his contract, Carter is expected to remain a Net. By all accounts the sides are close to working out a deal. One league source said he's "98 percent sure something will be done." Another said, "[Carter] is going to be a Net, no doubt." Carter has said he wants to stay. Everyone in the organization, starting with the man who signs the checks, Bruce Ratner, wants to keep the All-Star shooting guard. But the Nets are proceeding cautiously. They don't want to say anything that could affect negotiations negatively. Team president Rod Thorn remains in discussions with Carter's agent, Kurt Schoeppler. Thorn is cautiously optimistic they can reach an agreement. "I think come the 30th Vince will opt out and then we'll see what happens after that," Thorn said. "We're hopeful we can re-sign Vince. I hate to even gauge [if it's close] because you never know until you know." Carter could sign an extension by Saturday, but it's more likely he will opt out of the $16.3 million due him next season and get a new four-year deal worth between $60 million and $65 million.</div> Source: North Jersey
Well I guess 15-16 million is much better than 20 mil. He finally realized he isn't worth that amount. I would still trade him for Kobe though. I'm sure after we sign him, I expect to hear a lot of rumors. Do I dare say, Jefferson may be gone?
