<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Before the game, coach Sam Mitchell praised the oft-maligned Raptors star, saying he believed Carter could be one of the best defenders in the league. Defence has been a bone of contention with Carter's critics, who claim the Raptors star can't or won't play it. ``The thing with Vince is to push him to push this team as far as he can go,'' said Mitchell. ``You've got to give guys goals, I've set a goal for Vince, it's our secret, he knows what it is. ``I've set one for Chris (Bosh). They're all team things.'' Someone pointed out to Mitchell that coaches before him have tried to inspire Carter to be tougher defensively. ``You've got to try,'' said Mitchell. ``You can't throw your hands up and say. . . `oh.' ``People try to get him to do those things because he has the talent to do it. Vince has something, Chris has something _ God-given talent.'' </div> http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/CP_recap_041021.html Also during the game against the Blazers, the radio announcers were reffering to how well Carter was guarding Derek Anderson who shot 3-12, and Shareef who shot 3-8, this could be signs of something good for Vince.
This is good to hear, I like the way Mitchell is handling the players, seems to be doing a much better then KO ever did. Yet, this is only the preseason and Carter is playing limited minutes so I don't think he needs to exert most of his energy on offence like he does in the regular-season. We'll see in April how much more determined he is. Keep in mind Carter is on a mission to try to prove that he's worth being called a superstar and to gain some trade value. Hopefully, he now realizes that playing defence will help him attain that stature.
