Caught in a Triangle Jackson's uncertain future with Jerry Buss' Lakers has Jeanie Buss stuck in middle April 19, 2004 by J.A. Adande Phil Jackson always has this air about him, as if he knows more than you do and he knows he knows more than you do. We can only wonder what he's thinking, but my guess is that he has seen the future of the Lakers and has come to the conclusion that it doesn't involve him. Jackson's contract expires after this season, negotiations for an extension were called off in February and there are no rumblings of renewal, his relationship with Kobe Bryant is barely on this side of compatible and owner Jerry Buss sounds infatuated with Bryant and bored with Jackson. That doesn't add up to long-term job security. Or Jackson could decide to walk away on his own. If he wins a championship it will be the 10th of his coaching career, which would break his tie with Red Auerbach and give him the most championships of any NBA coach. Just one more thing to pile on a Laker plate already loaded with eight potential free agents as they pass through the postseason buffet. "We're really excited about these playoffs, and yet, knowing that there's still a lot to be decided after these playoffs as far as my future goes," Jackson said after the regular season ended in Portland He'll allow himself to look at all the playoff trimmings, to hear the sounds of the crowd and to savor it. "This could be the last one I ever go through," he said. "So it's just kind of fun." more... http://www.latimes.com/sports/baske...ines-sports-nba
^ Once again, pretty old outdated stuff. Phil Jackson knows what's best for him, and Jerry Buss knows what's best for his basketball team. If Phil Jackson wins the title this year, and walks away, much praise to him. Because he's done a lot in his coaching career, and when it's all said and done, he could be the best coach in NBA history behind Red Auerbach. But if Phil Jackson wants to return, I'd expect Buss during the offseason to get the negotiations jumpstarted again, and signing him long-term. if things don't go in our favor, I wouldn't mind seeing Byron Scott as our coach next season.
Bryon Scott? Coach of a team we played how many times in the playoff finals? i cant believe that dude. No really, i d never accept that him as our coach. Id really want phil to stay he is and will be a great coach forever, but if he decides to go, who can stop him?

He knows the city of Los Angeles very well, he played with Magic and the Showtime Era, he has very good credentials actually taking the New Jersey Nets to two NBA Finals, so what's the problem?? I would also want Phil to stay and finish his career on the Laker sideline, but he won't be around forever. One day we're going to have to make a replacement, and I really feel Byron Scott is perfect for this situation.
Jim Clemons would likely be jackson's replacement...he's been with the team throughout Phil's reign here in L.A., he's well versed in the Triangle, and he has a good relationship with Kobe...he'll also come at a cheap price tag....Those are enough good reasons for Dr. Buss...
