My thoughts for possible team awards night.....

MVP : [IMG] LeBron James. Although team struggled without Booz and McInnis when injured, LeBrons impact on court over the whole year was greater. Basically he did it all, allowing all other players on court to play their natural games.
Other nominees : Carlos Boozer, Jeff McInnis

MIP : [IMG] Carlos Boozer. Took his game to a new level. After a solid rrokie campaign, he backed it up by becoming an outsider for all star selection, and a chance at most improved player in the NBA.
Other nominees : Desagana Diop (he couldn't get worse)

DPOY : :thumbsdow Noone. Passed over until next year. Nobody was consistent over the entire year to be eligable for this award. Battie and Newble didn't play enough, and McInnis was solid but still not enough. Z was good 2nd half of the year, but too far off due to the first half of the season. Defensive coordinator should get the sack.

ROY [IMG] : LeBron James. Gets the nod in a close call over Jason Kapono. If Kapono could improve his athletisism, handling, defense, rebounding, penetrating, passing, court awareness, influence, and desire he would have got the nod.
    Other nominees : Jason Kapono

Disappointing POY :thumbsdow : Dejuan Wagner. Showed little desire to improve his defincincies in his game. Has alot of scoring talent, but unless he realise he's gotta play D, be able to pentetrate left as well and also notice he has team mates on the floor, he will have little effect on this league.
Other nominees : Ira Newble, Ruben Boumjte Boumtje (didn't get involved) and assistant coaches.

    Other awards??? Thoughts....

    MVP: McInnis

I have to give Jeff some love. He was the guy that turned everything around here. Watching this team play without him was terrible and his injury was the true end to our season.

    ROY: James

    MIP: Boozer

Carlos still needs to work on his game a lot, but made very good strides this season. He was a double double guy that could shoot the jumper and was our best clutch freethrow shooter. Next season I want to see him play some defense and limit his turnovers.

Defense: Sorry, the Cavs did not play any, even when they were winning. Because of that I am not too happy with the entire team, but I understand we are young and can't play our best every quarter yet, let alone season.

The Plain Dealer yesterday had a hole bunch of team awards on it. I have to scrape it up from newCAVSowner and post it here. But here are my awards:

MVP: LeBron James, led the team in scoring and assists and steals, oh yeah and turnovers.

MIP: Boozer of course. Averaged a double-double and only his 2nd year.

NYSNYD (Now you see em, Now you dont award): Eric Williams. Had a huge impact when aquired then his game disapeared.

Defense: Tony Battie. The man protected the hoop during big games and made huge blocks.

6th Man: Tony Battie: He was the only player worth playing every single night off the bench.

Defense is a subjective thing. A maintainance item. One night it's there, the next, maybe not. For the higher % of players in the game, a forgotten art. We can all count them. Only a small number of current players in the league make a business out of the defensive part of the game. Consider this! Every time the ball goes in the hole, someone didn't do a good enough job defensively. With that said, Boozer is as guilty as anyone on "D", and needs to step up that part of his learning.

One turnover is too many, however I don't see how anyone could single out Carlos for a deficiency in that regard. At 1.8 T/O's per game, he and Nowitzki are tied at the lowest ratio for any of the top PF's in the league.

    Just my 2 cents worth...................Tank

Going by what has been said so far we are not at all impressed with our defense. Is this a growth thing in our players to improve, or does our roster need to be shaken? I hope its the former. And we dont respect our bench. Hopefully self improvement again will lift this team, with one or two minor changes.

6th Man : forgot about this award. I'll agree with Mr_Infante. Tony Battie was a consistent contributor at power froward and center for us this season.

Agreed, we knew what we were getting with Batman every single time he came onto the court. Everyone else you just never knew what you were going to get.

I think the defense should improve next year now that the key players have had a chance to play together and the roster shouldn't be turned over as much as it has been in recent years. Players also have gotten more used to Silas' system too.

I would think the defense of LeBron and Boozer will also get better as they get more experience.
Players need to trust each other more on the defensive end and learn to make the proper defensive rotations.

The perimeter defense has to get better. The Cavs can't let opposing guards take it to the hoop on them continually.

Battie is a solid backup. There were games where he didn't contribute much though. I don't have a problem with him though and he's a good player to have off the bench.

I have to give a sharpshooter award to Kapono, his 3:point shooting has been as good as advertised(.477). If only he could work a little on a few other aspects of his game (see first post by CarmaCavs) he will be solid.

I belive that this award would be different if Lee Nailon had come to Cavs before he did. He came late, nearly not early enough to be a playoff-player for Cavs if they had come to it. If Nailon had come early in the season, before the all-star break, and Eric Williams would stayed good, and hadn't been in a slump, Nailon would get this I belive...

Nailon lacks some of the basketball fundamentals defensively to be a real good player in this league. Offensively he has some good moves, and has a solid mid range jumper. If he could extend his range solid, and make some adjustment defensively ( a little like Wags ) he could make some noise in this league.

MVP: McInnis, he cut down the teams turnovers and at many times was a good outside threat. He also became a leader and floor general on the court. Boozer and LJ were close, but Lebron wasn't consistent enough, and Boozer got beat by McInnis by a little.

ROY: Lebron James, do I even need to explain, I mean Jason Kapono?

MIP: Carlos Boozer, no one else really had substantial improvement.

6th Man: Tony Battie, he was the most consistent in that he brought it every game and was always working.

DPOY: People played defense? Kevin Ollie didn't do bad though, but he's small, and Newble wasn't bad either.

Dissapointing Player: Wagner, I didn't expect that much but he hogged too much and when he shoots over at least 40% for a season we'll talk, also doesn't even try on D.

All Nailon has offensivly is the triple threat stance. Fake right, fake left, pump fake, screw it shoot it. That is ALL he does.

It's interesting that Jeff McInnis, a guy that was with the team ~ half the year, gets MVP from most. Says a lot about when this team got it together.

This was Silas' claim too- second half of the season.
