"As the players showered and dressed Tuesday night following their 87-72 preseason victory over the Charlotte Bobcats at Quicken Loans Arena, the Cavaliers saw a familiar face in the locker room.

    LeBron James.

He might be 1,200 miles away, but James' debut with the Miami Heat was playing on both televisions in the Cavaliers' locker room. No one stopped to watch, but the irony of the situation was evident to all present.

Daniel Gibson had 18 points, J.J. Hickson had 17 and Jamario Moon had 10 rebounds as the players did their best to officially sweep away the James era and begin anew.

''It wasn't strange at all,'' said Moon, who took over James' old space in the corner of the locker room. ''It's home. It's never strange to go home. We were anxious to get in here and show people that basketball was still alive in Cleveland.''

    For one night, they did.

Gibson, the talk of training camp, continued his revival. Before tipoff, coach Byron Scott called him the team's best perimeter defender and reiterated he's expecting big things out of the inconsistent guard.

Gibson didn't start, but he got to the free-throw line 10 times and made all of them. He also turned it over three times and only had one assist, but he has responded to the confidence Scott has already shown in him.

''The offense is tailor-made for Boobie,'' Scott said. ''I think he's enjoying it and I think he's having a lot of fun. He feels right now that this is his chance to have a breakout season. I've been very, very pleased with him. I'm a big Boobie fan.''

Scott started Joey Graham and Antawn Jamison at forward, Ryan Hollins in the middle and Anthony Parker and Ramon Sessions at the guard spots, but insisted

earlier in the day not to read too much into any lineups at this point.

Sessions finished with 11 points and five assists, and Parker had 10 points.

Hickson, like Gibson, did not start. But he was active both offensively and defensively, grabbed nine rebounds and seemed more aggressive than he was last season.

The Cavaliers' aggressive running style seemed to wear down the Bobcats into the second half.

The Cavaliers trailed 47-43 at the half, but held the Bobcats to just 25 points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter."
