<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Now, with training camp opening at the beginning of October, Prince wonders why the Cavs wouldn't consider bringing Rodman to training camp this fall since they were so interested last spring. Prince said that since Rodman played with Michael Jordan, he'd like to play with LeBron James. According to Prince, Rodman views James as "an up-and-coming Michael." "We'll fly ourselves out there," Prince said in a telephone interview. "We just want an open invitation to come in and show what he can still do. . . . Bring him in on a non-guaranteed contract. We'll run that risk." According to a Cavaliers spokesman, Prince and Rodman initiated all the contact last spring and Gilbert merely took their calls. However, a Cavaliers source and an NBA source with knowledge of the situation said the new Detroit-based ownership group was very intrigued by the possibility of Rodman joining the Cavs, although that no longer seems to be the case. "We have no interest but wish Dennis the best," Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry said. </div> Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting virve119:</div><div class="quote_post">Why not at least give him a tryout?</div> Yea i agree. What if the tryout turns out to be good. Im kind of wondering why any other team that needs a big men isn't interested in him, like the Nets?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting virve119:</div><div class="quote_post">Why not at least give him a tryout?</div> Because he's 44 years old. He's in no way, shape or form ready to play for any NBA team let alone the Cavs. He'd need to be able to keep up with Lebron and his high flying acts, and at his age he's just not capable anymore. If I'm not mistaken, Kevin Willis is one of the oldest players in the league. His past couple of season have been nothing special, and he's only really contributed with his vet knowledge to the younger guys. Now, if Rodman considered a position as a assistant coach or defensive specialist it would make much more sense... But Rodman in a NBA uniform? No way.
Rodman in an NBA uniform at that age would be pretty crazy, but then again hes crazy. And theres no risk in letting him try out, that seeing what he can do its not signing him to a contract or any thing like that.
He's obviously not going to be the same Rodman at the age he is now. But it can't hurt to at least let the guy try-out.
