Heading into this NBA season there are only four former University of Memphis basketball players under contract with NBA teams. But if sports agent Jermandalon Nash has his way, that number will soon increase.

According to Nash, two of his clients -- Jimmie 'Snap' Hunter and Cedric Henderson -- have accepted training camp spots with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Utah Jazz, respectively. Both are scheduled to report near the end of this month.

''They're in good situations,'' said Nash, a graduate of Kirby High and Christian Brothers University. ''I think both Snap and Ced really have a good chance to make the rosters.''

Though Henderson is an NBA veteran, this will be the first training camp for Hunter, the forever-heralded talent from Trezevant High who spent one semester at the U of M under Tic Price.

A 6-5 combo guard, Hunter played with the Orlando Magic this summer and did well enough to earn several training camp invitations. But ultimately, Nash said he chose to place his client with Cleveland for simple reasons.

''They only have 11 guaranteed contracts right now, and they're going to keep 14 guys,'' Nash explained. ''They're looking for somebody who can come off the bench and score, and play the point guard position or the shooting guard position. And that's what Snap can do. So it's a great opportunity for him.''

Hunter led the USBL in scoring last season. Assuming all goes well, his first NBA preseason game will be in FedExForum against the Grizzlies on Oct. 14.
