<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Paul Silas was fired as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday with his team fighting for a playoff spot after being in first place earlier in the year.

Silas told The Associated Press he was called in Monday morning for a brief meeting with general manager Jim Paxson and new owner Dan Gilbert.

"They released me," Silas said. "They didn't think the team was performing as well as it should be and they wanted to make a change."

Despite having league superstar LeBron James, the Cavaliers have struggled since the All-Star break, losing nine of 12 and nine straight road games, including Sunday's 105-98 loss to Toronto when James scored a franchise-record 56.

Silas said he was not given a detailed explanation of why he was fired, but there have been issues over the last few weeks that have resulted in the Cavaliers' slide after they went into the All-Star break 30-21.

It all may have culminated Sunday when Silas benched starting guard Jeff McInnis and replaced him with Eric Snow. Snow did not score in Cleveland's loss at Toronto and McInnis, despite dressed and available, didn't play.</div> Source

The coaching jobs opening up are going to crazy in the off-season.

The Knicks, TWolves, Lakers, Magic, Mavericks, Blazers, Cavs, and possibly the Pistons will all have new head coaches.

I was shocked to see Silas gone. I did not think he was in danger and I am not sure if firing him was the right thing to do. I think the Cavs were doing fine despite their struggles. Considering how bad the Eastern Conference is, I thought the Cavs would hang in there.

I think the Cavs are trying to go after Phil Jackson and you have to figure Jackson is going to be very interested. I think the Cavs are the favorite to get Jackson. Jackson loves stars who can help him win championships and Lebron James fits the bill big time. Flip Saunders who has had ties in the Ohio area has a shot, but Phil Jackson and the Cavs are a great fit.

Since there are so many job openings, Silas will land on his feet. He will be a head coach for some team. I am hoping he coaches the Timberwolves next year. I think he would be a great fit for KG.

On another note, It's very startling to see lot of coaches getting fired for the second consecutive years in a row. That's not great and it's a troubling thing.
