The Boston Celtics traded former first-round pick Fab Melo and cash to the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday for the nonguaranteed contract of Donte Greene. Greene is set to earn $1 million this season. If Boston doesn't envision a spot for the 6-foot-11 forward on its roster, the team could waive him (either immediately or after training camp) and could dip below the luxury tax line. (Boston is roughly $700,000 over the $71.8 million line at the moment; Melo was set to earn $1.3 million.)
He really wasn't given much of a chance either. Now I just hope he doesn't make the Celtics regret it.
Plans seem to change. I think this just shows that they are 100% committed to getting sully and olynk ample playing time. I think they gave fab a year and did not see significant enough progress that he would ever amount to anything. I wanted to see fab succeed. I don't think he will ever become a starter or even someone the Celts regret letting go of. I do however thing in a year or two he might offer some bench minutes to a team looking for a defensive minded big
I think the Celtics could be very good if Olynyk is at least a solid contributor as a full-time starter at C. The other four positions are well manned by quality, but not superstar, players.
Along with Olynk at the 5 you have Bradley & Rondo in the back court. Up front you have to go with Green Definitely but then who? Bass or Wallace?
if we are talking starting five not counting current injuries and uncertainty. I say the target starting five is rondo/Bradley backcourt and a green/sullinger/olynk front court. However I think instead of sullinger they might take a Wallace or bass direction, not sure why, just kind of got that feeling.
Rondo/Bradley is a really short back court. Am I missing something or wouldn't Jordan Crawford or Courtney Lee be better choices at SG?
My mistake I keep thinking Doc is still around. Bradley was his boy. And yes I'd rather see Crawford. So who would you pair up with Green & Olnyk in the front court?
Brandon Bass. The team could go .500 or more. The roster has quality guys and it's reasonably deep. To really compete, you need a superstar. Maybe Rondo is good enough.
