<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Celtics got off to a hot start against the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday night, cruising to a 23-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. They never looked back, beating the Clippers, 76-59. Rookie Gerald Green led the Celtics with 14 points (5-9 FG). Tony Allen had 13 points (5-11 FG), while Justin Reed pitched in 12 points (4-9 FG). The Celtics finished the game shooting 44 percent (28-64 FG), and out-rebounded the Clippers 51-34.</div> Recap Box Score Tony Allen- 13 pts, 9 boards Justin Reed- 12 pts, 7 boards Gerald Green- 14 pts We doubled them in rebounds, but we only had 2 assists as a team. Mixed results, but it looks like we won fairly easily.
The thing that impresses me about this win is the rebounding margin. I also noticed that Ryan Gomes scored 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. He's contributing right off the start. Another thing that grabs my attention is that Coppenrath contributed with 6 points and played 24 minutes. That shows me that we are giving him a chance and his is contributing. He needs to grab more rebounds though. Green really impresses me. He only played 16 minutes but scored 14 points and grabbed a rebound. He will be a great asset to us come November. I know there is nothing to really get worked up about since this is early in the summer leauge and we're playing the Clippers but look how well we performed. I'm really looking forward to next season.
Ryan Gomes (a.k.a. instant future NBA All-Rookie First Teamer) - 4 pts, 6 rbs Gerald Green (a.k.a. not ready for a major role yet) - 14 pts Did I get those numbers backwards, 44? I don't mean to bash Will McDonald, but only 8 pts and 5 rbs? Who does he think he is? A better Ryan Gomes? :gloat: On a more serious note, I know Gomes is talented, so what's with the bad performance? Having an offnight? Having a hard time adjusting to the 3? Injured?
Hey, I have an idea...let's be as ridiculous as possible. We're talking about a summer league game. Trying to gauge what kind of season Gomes will have, based on that, is pathetic. So pathetic that I'm actually embarrased about responding to it. Also, I don't remember saying that Gomes was an All Rookie team candidate. Maybe you should be addressing C.K. with those comments. My only beef was with you calling it a "joke", when it's entirely possible.

They're just silly little get-togethers and another excuse to shower with a bunch of men, right? As for gauging Gomes' season, you're jumping to conclusions. This thread is for talk about the players' Summer League performances, and I replied about the Summer League performances. Soooo rediculous. And the joke is still very funny to me. You'll get it some day.
the results aren't important but how the rookies and guys looking to prove themselves Is. It gives you a good idea on what to happen for the new season.

Am I correct? Second of all, what matters to me in college basketball is not where the players end up in the NBA but rather how the players and teams I follow do in the NCAA. Michigan State went to the Final Four for the 4th time in just 7 years. Where was Providence again? I must have missed them when filling out my tournament bracket.
allen iverson scored 81 points in a summer league game before his rookie season even started, so dont put too much emphasis on green`s 14 points cos it means nothing till showtime really starts

Anderson wasn't picked, and I wasn't expecting him to be picked over Gomes, hence why I didn't take your bet. I don't think it's fair to single out him though. Michigan State has had a great track record with drafts. Over the past few years they've seen Jason Richardson, Zach Randolph, Morris Petterson, Mateen Cleaves, Marcus Taylor, and Andre Hutson all be drafted, as well as Charlie Bell having stints as an undrafted Free Agent. Then when you look to the future, they have four or five guys that are very likely first round picks with Brown, Davis, Ager, Gray, and Neitzel. So I don't think it's fair to compare too many schools outside of North Carolina to them on the draft front.

That's sad to have Gomes out there when he can't even put up stats against Summer League Teams, isnt it suppose to be weak competition compared to the NBA? The only thing I see wrong is that Gomes got 13 minutes, Why? Isn't he gonna start next year? So he's riding the bench in the Summer League? Makes no sense. VC, Arizona can be compared to Michigan St. for players drafted.

Think about the significance of these games....there is none. You can't ask questions like that because you'd be asking them for the rest of your life. The coaches don't care if they win these games, they just want an adequate look at how their players are progressing. A guy might play 5 minutes one night and 35 the next. There's no rhyme or reason to it at all. Take a look at all the box scores from the league if you'd like. You'll see what I'm talking about.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You people are putting way too much thought into this summer league. </div> And what's that supposed to mean, 44? No one is putting too much thought into this summer league (well, maybe J_Ray is). Yes, I'm posting about it and asking why Gomes did so poorly, but isn't that the point of the thread, summer league discussion? As for Arizona, they don't hold a torch to the quality of players that have come out of Michigan State. I'll take Richardson and Randolph over Arenas and Jefferson any day.

What team went through the #1 and #2 seed in their bracket to get to the Final 4? Michigan State did. Michigan State had no true superstar on their team, but with the heart and will to win that all the kids expressed on that team to get by each game, I'd take any of them over Frye and Salim anyday of the week. Then you say Stoudamire and Frye don't play with their heart? They play with just as much heart as any of the Mich. St. players. Frye and Stoudamire came in as regular recruits not superstars and they worked at it to become the players they are now. Frye wasn't even a top 100 recruit.
