    Newsday -
Boston was in the hunt for Allen Iverson on Monday, with a deal that would include Al Jefferson and Theo Ratliff with his $11.7-million contract.

Jefferson said neither Rivers nor general manager Danny Ainge had spoken with him about it. "I don't want it to happen, especially my name involved in it," Jefferson said. Told after the game that Jefferson doesn't want to be traded, Rivers said: "He won't be. I try to stay out of it because I have to coach the players and I don't want to lie to the players. But I'm pretty comfortable in saying that Al will be here."

The Sixers reportedly want to include forward Chris Webber, who has $43 million remaining on his contract, but teams are backing away at that idea.

Golden State and Sacramento also appear to be among the teams most likely to acquire Iverson.

Indiana emerged Monday as a strong player, with discussions centering around Jamaal Tinsley and Stephen Jackson. [READ] </div>

For some reason, seeing that was very satisfying. [IMG]

The article says Minnesota is out of the picture for now. If they don't get AI, then there could be a KG fallout. Book it.

We may have to give up Baron or JRich for AI. If you had to deal one, who would you give up? [IMG]

Kinda ironic how we trade Fisher away but we get a player just like him back. At least McLeod costs a lot less than Fisher.

Funny, I had the same trade except Baron instead of Foyle. Uh, because I was trying to be realistic [IMG]

But even then, I don't want to trade Baron. It's evident he can dominate. I just can't bail on him yet -- with the right supporting cast, he can make any NBA team look silly.

Who knows if it'll ever happen: will Baron win a ring, or will he play out his career with inconsistent performances and grumblings...

I can't say for sure, but I don't want to bail on Baron yet.

I was just trying to plug in the most realistic scenario, and came up with Baron/Murph for AI/Hunter

Totally -- that's about as bittersweet as they come. All I want for Christmas is a PG who wants to pass godddammit!!!!!!

Though, I'd say Santa came early this year when Fisher was dealt -- that made my season! Now, if McCleod can stop being "McClang!"

I am not that into getting Iverson. Would not give J Rich or Baron.
Iverson is a budget buster and being 31 with 2 1/2 yrs left--he's no guy to build with.

Short term? We'd gain some, since we have scorers injured-but Nellie would need to draw up a whole new system-style..and if Iverson does not like it...trouble ahead. Iverson however would turn our assorted young talent into supporting actors as AI takes his usual 30+ shots while everyone else does the dirty work.

A smarter + unlazy Baron > A.I. I feel. Baron fits Nellie's running game more and is a better distributer. All we need is for him to take better shots/decisions.

Well, the article said Mullin is one of the people in the lead now along with Ainge and Petrie, so I'm discussing that. Realistically, I think Boston has the best chance of landing AI because they can offer a combination youth, vets and an expiring contract. They were the ones closest to doing the 3-way deal during the off-season with Utah.

Sounds like some of you don't want AI here. I can understand that, but to equate AI to Fisher or McLeod is ridiculous. Sure AI will get the ball and the rest of the guys will stand around at times, but Nelson has to see what's working and what's not and change that. That is one Nelson's strengths in coaching. No one can better exploit matchups better. With Iverson, he gets another small baller, so AI will be worked into the lineup to best make him a scoring weapon without sacrificing the dynamics of the team. Besides, our team dynamics aren't that good right now.

AI is going to have immediate impact on the team because he will provide 30+ points a night and will be the go to guy. We don't have that on this team.

At this point, I see Mullin offering JRich in the deal. There will be some negative consequences with having Baron, AI and Monta. Monta may have his minutes reduced and slow his development.

OTOH, Mullin could be dealing Monta along with a big contract like Murphy or Foyle and we take back someone like Shavlik Randolph (injured). He could be thinking of Baron and AI in the backcourt and JRich at SF. That would be an immediate upgrade in the backcourt and address the turnover issue with having AI and Monta play together. The downside risk is we could be sacrificing a future all-star for an all-star now.

It would be great if there was a big man available who we can trade Murphy for, but nothing like that has presented itself. Every time we try to figure out a trade for Murphy, we hit a dead end, so we may be stuck with him for another year or two. Can you guys live with that? It's one of the consequences of giving out huge contracts to mediocre talent.

I heard on ESPN radio that Iverson WOULD BE TRADED TODAY, but I dont think they named any teams. I could really care less if Iverson were here, but if we got him here it would have to be for Baron or Jrich as a minimum, otherwise we really dont improve our team that much. I think Iverson can run with anyone out there, but I think he also adds and element of half court offense that virtually no one in the league can match...

Billy King would be going for a 10 mile run because the entire city of Philadelphia would be chasing him with crowbars and baseball bats after that trade.. [IMG]

Maybe then he'd quit...I'd love you guys for that. [IMG]

Unless it's incredibly one-sided in the Warriors favor, I'm against a trade that brings AI to the Warriors. But you know what? I'm starting to feel so negative about this team and its chances to make the playoffs that I think I might secretly be wanting it to happen, just to have something exciting and new (just like the Love Boat!) to look forward to.

Baron Davis seems to be better than anyone else is offering for Allen Iverson besides maybe Maggette and Livingston or possibly Bibby and Thomas. I would consider proposing Baron/Murphy/Foyle for AI/Webber/Henderson (though this deal couldn't be done until the 15th of December because of a Henderson's contract). But maybe even Baron/Murphy/Foyle for AI/Webber would be somewhat enticing. I would bet that Webber could produce similar numbers to what Murphy and Foyle are producing now, and plus his contract is shorter. If he becomes a "cancer" in the locker room then the team could trade him since teams would be interested in his expiring contract by next season.

The advantage with AI alluded by Warriorsfannc93 is a half-court element. AI shoots a lot, but unlike Baron, Iverson's shots are mostly attacking the basket. I read that he has a 2:1 FTA:3FGA ratio or actually last season it was closer to 4:1 and for his career just less than 3:1. This compared to Baron Davis whose ratio is less than 1:1. Baron for his career has 2475 3FGA compared to 1938 FTA: granted this season it is higher than 1:1 (I think about 3:2) but it is still far less than AI. Also who do you want at the line late in games? a 67% FT shooter or a 77% FT shooter.

The AI "auction" is getting interesting.

I am sure Mullin will have hard time removing 3 out of 5 starters in last year, and crown jewels of his signings, but just maybe he will consider this deal...

OK, enough of dreaming... I really don't know about this trade. In one hand, we will get a superstar. In other hand, Iverson really doesn't improve any of our weakness. And, while he has 3 years contracts, we are looking for 2 years or shorter contract. So, he doesn't solve our salary problem either. Do we really want to part Monta for Iverson? What if Philly take one of our big contract? I guess only time will tell...

Kwan, you are seriously dreaming. I'm not saying anything about you. No way Sixers take 5 years of Murphy and Dunleavy.

I respect AI's toughness and skills, but I hate his attitude towards practice. You cannot just run the ball out there and expect to win on sheer god given talent. Except scoring titles.

Yeah... But, it would be nice if that can happen... Of course, with the same logic, we can probably get James for Pietrus and Howard for Foyle...

Seriously, most likely scenario is probably Davis and Zarko or Mcleod for Iverson. Or if Philly really wants Monta, they have to take Foyle and Murphy to make a deal, since there is no way we will give up Monta and either Davis or Richardson and match the salary...

The question is, who would Philadelphia want outside of Biedrins, who is not going anywhere, or Monta, who is probably not? Hopefully Ike isn't thrown in as a sweetener, as we've been discussing.

Would we trade one disgruntled guard for another? AI could save himself the move and wind up on basically the same team. Guys like AI and Baron need another all-star or big guy to play with. It just sucks that the only other real player Baron can rely on is another guard who isn't really a guard. What I'd do to get Elton Brand at PF back when the clippers were still losing and had no decent center. The big man and backcourt game are so intertwined with most offenses that you can't compete towards the playoffs without them. If we are forced to the perimeter a lot, we better hope the midrange game is like bread and butter to us much like it is to Sam Cassell, Rip Hamilton, and Chauncey Billups. High % scoring when it counts.... and if we miss we got tough offensive rebounding/interior defense stoppers to back that up.

Mullin wouldn't trade one disgruntled for another. He'd take both. What if traded Monta, Murphy and re-signed MP for AI and Randolph?
