This post actually makes me feel a little bit better tonight. The Democrats can't be so stupid as to dismiss the economy in this election so maybe they will get together and figure out how to make it better so they can stay in power and make themselves some REAL MONEY. That would serve their best interests.

In the USA, there are many people, a few even sincere, who label Obama a socialist. Any place else in the western world, he would be seen as a centrist.

In the western/democratic/1st world, we are the only nation where people can get elected by advocating for the teaching of creationism. Abortion, sex education, stem-cell research...all are pretty much non-issues.

In sum: this country has always leaned to the right, and always will. I don't like it, but I have come to accept it.

On Pluto he might be considered a Nazi. I think it matters more what people of this country think of him than what Brazil thinks.

Abortion should be a non issue, you wanna kill your unborn child. Fine, just go fuck yourself.
Sex education. I think it requires parents to make a baby, they should educate them.
Stem-Cell research...who gives a fuck? Wanna live to be a million?

Hey, just thought of something. IF we are going to be socialist, can we at least kick the illegals out or do we gotta go for the whole world as one big economy?

    Why does this matter?

Give me a reason other than greed or jealousy :)

if the wealth concentrates on the top, the top pays bigger share of the total taxes, no?

They do, indeed. But that doesn't mean there's not plenty of money for everyone else (there is).

This is a huge disconnect for me. Many of the left care about how the pie is sliced, while I care primarily how big the pie is. If the pie gets bigger and everyone gets a bigger slice, I don't care that one person got five times the pie I did.

    yes.

but since the rich get a bigger (%) piece of the pie than earlier, they pay bigger % of the total taxes. therefore the numbers masbee gave us don't necessarily mean that much. although, after looking at the link, it seems the correct numbers are:

    1980: 49.28% (average tax rate: 23.49%)
    1988: 57.28% (average tax rate: 19.18%)
    2006: 70.79% (average tax rate: 18.86%)
