QUOTE

-I haven't said much about Brendan Haywood this week but he's had a good camp. He showed up in excellent shape and is playing hard. One interesting thing about his game is free throw shooting. Word is that new assistant coach Dave Hopla, a shooting expert, discovered a flaw in Brendan's free throw stance that was hurting his percentage. According to Jordan, Hopla has been encouraging Brendan to stay on his toes throughout his shot and not fall back onto his heels as he's done in the past. The result has been better rotation on the shot and more accuracy.
Eddie: "He's given Brendan a few keys. I heard him say: 'finish on your toes, Brendan' As much as I've seen Brendan shoot free throws, now it clicked that he finishes on his heels and I never really realized that until Dave said it. Brendan will start on his toes and then finish on his heels at the end of the shot. So now, that's what we're telling Brendan: "finish on your toes." He (Hopla) has really helped us."

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsi...y_update_1.html
I'm loving the addition of Dave Hopla already. When you have a shooting team like the Wizards have, you need to have an expert like Hopla to polish their shooting touch. The charity stripe was a bit of a problem for Haywood last season, but now it's going to be important for him to sink them consistently since Etan Thomas may be out for a while.

Always nice to see a big man improving on his free throw shooting.
And for future reference, if you don't want a description, just enter a space in the description field when making a thread.

I think it's more fun to put something stupid in the description, haha.
I wish I had a shooting coach like this. I get hot and cold, some days I can hit like 5-10 3 pointers in a row, some days I can barely get 3 in a row. Some days, I sink 15 free throws in a row twice, some days I can't get 5 in a row. It pisses me off.
Anyways, it's good the Wiz picked up Hopla. Seems just from that excerpt from the article, he knows what he's talking about when it comes to shooting. perhaps he can help Caron develop a better shot, so he can sink some free throws. And maybe he could even help out Blatche with his shooting.

Caron Butler is first on the team with an 86% free throw percentage and he's been consistent and counted on all season long when he was at the line. His biggest strength on the offensive side is his mid-range jumper, where he can go spot up or turnaround. He's been focusing on expanding his range behind the perimeter throughout the Summer and training camp, so we're looking forward to that.

Caron Butler's mid-range gameand free throw shooting are very reliable. He's also been working on a long-range jumper, an area which he's been on-and-off over the past couple of seasons. Andray Blatche is the guy they 'll have to focus on, his jumper was in-consistent last season.
