<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Mark Aguirre, the Knicks' summer-league coach, has treated 6-11 Channing Frye as if he were an undrafted rookie free agent. The problem is, Frye has looked the part of an undrafted rookie free agent. "He's soft," said one agent leaving UNLV's Cox Pavilion late Saturday night. Frye has shown promise offensively, but has struggled alarmingly on defense, getting in foul trouble in two of the Knicks' three games. Aguirre held the Knicks' prized first-round pick to just 14 minutes Saturday when he got in early foul trouble, even though in summer league you can't foul out. "It's not fair to all of the guys that come in and put blood and sweat on the floor," Aguirre said, explaining Frye's limited minutes. "There's some guys on this team that have sweated hard and their careers are dependent on it. If I can get them a look, I'm going to get them a look." It's odd thinking considering this summer league is designed to develop draft picks like the Knicks' three first-rounders. Frye, taken at No. 8, has been the least impressive of the trio, with speedy point guard Nate Robinson and active power forward David Lee excelling. "In the NBA game, what you've got to understand is every guy is not going to make that shot," Aguirre said. "Channing goes after every shot. He's got to realize, a lot of those shots you've just got to contest. He's trying to block everybody who comes down in there." Said Frye: "I have a lot of expectations I want to fulfill and I think sometimes I kind of psych myself out. If I got down on myself now, I think that would be really immature." </div> Source
How can you say that after watching only 3 summer league games? While it does help evaluate a rookie, it isn't nearly accurate. I heard Wade struggled in the summer leagues as did other players, but look how they ended up? I'm not at all suggesting Channing will have as big an impact as Wade in his career, but at least wait to see what he does in preseason and the start of the regular season. That being said, it's also possible Nate will be a bust too although he is on his way to the Summer League team. Let's just see how everything turns out before we start determining who is a bust and who is not.
I don't think Fyre will be a MAJOR Kandi bust, but I don't think he'll be a consistant starter in this league. I see his future similar to Tony Battie's career, drafted very high, and was just a servicable player who can start or come off the bench.
I hate how they quote something negative said by some person and they don't say the person's name. I could be like Jason Blair and make a whole bunch of stuff up. "Softer than lemon pudding", said one guy picking his nose. "My 8 year old sister can post him up" said another guy as he was digging through the gym dumpster. I hate that kind of writing. But hey this is the New York media we're talking about so it's to be expected. Plus, for Knicks fans it's the only thing sugar coated and falsified in hopeful way like Larry Brown to the Knicks or Lebron's contract bonus for signing with the Knicks (which doesn't even exist btw, it was made up). Talk about spurious reporting. Anyway, love the Knick fans, hate the media.

Although, I must say, as the guy picking his nose right now, the guy is softer than lemon pudding. And probably not nearly as delightful. At least he has some sense of where he stands. READ: he's a rookie, he has plenty of time to develop, he has no REASON to get down on himself, nevermind the immaturity factor. Although he does look bustworthy, and I think I'm not the only one thinking so, there is always room to grow, so who knows? And mind you, this is coming from someone who doesn't let a single Isiah escapade go after screwing the pooch on the whole CBA deal, so I think I will pat myself on the back for being so even-handed, despite the fact that it was a terrible pick at the 8. Isiah can thank Rob Babcock for taking some pressure off him for that unbelievable 7th pick though, it took Thomas out of Worst GM ever status for about a month. Now that's some spurious reporting.
Frye would be good if he had a big center to play next to, Fyre can put up Rasheed numbers if he had that.
This media stuff is ridiculous, but it's just one of the things you have to deal with living in New York, unfortunately.

MUAHAHAHA!! I love being a Raps Fan
