Apparently they found the idea of paying him so intolerable that they cut him and took the cap hit to keep from paying.
Not a good day to graduate from the University of Iowa. First Reggie Roby dies at age 43, then Tim Dwight gets cut. Certainly there is a big difference between the two but.... By the way, for those of us old enough to see Roby play at the beginning of his NFL career, and especially in college, this was one of the most powerful punters ever. He and Ray Guy would make a good variation on the 'What is a HOFer' discussion.

I am against all kickers and punters being allowed to be elected, or even visit the HOF
Ray Guy should be in the Hall of Fame. Both Morten Andersen and Gary Anderson should (and will be) in the Hall of Fame.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MKIV_Supra)</div><div class='quotemain'>Yeah, I heard they cut him on Thursday. But why did they cut him for?</div> They think they can amass 55 better players for thier roster

Look at his stats. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12340 He had a way better year at in Atlanta than in San Diego. That's because Brees' "Go-To" guy was Antonio Gates and LT was a huge player on their team.

He is a solid Kick and Punt return man, and he stretches the field with his speed.
