<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Report: Chargers might let Brees test free agencyChris Mortensen reports the San Diego Chargers are wrestling with the idea of making Drew Brees an unrestrictive free agent perhaps gambling his shoulder surgery would have a chilling effect on interested teams.Recently the Chargers made an initial contract offer to Brees. Should the Chargers elect to franchise Brees his 2006 salary as a franchise or transition player would be approximately $9.7 million.Last year Brees threw for 3,576 yards and 24 touchdown passes. Over the past two seasons his passer rating of 96.1 ranks fifth in the NFL.</div>
I don't know about this. He's a great player and the Chargers should re-sign him becaues a lot of teams will want him.
If I were Phillip Rivers and the Chargers were gonna have Brees starting again, then I'd wanna go. How many years would that be wasted then? 3?

If they don't want him, they should trade him, since they could get more out of him. But why would you want to get rid of him if he has proven himself?

That way they can bring him back for a discounted price.
You have no idea how pumped I would be to see Brees in Baltimore. He is a good fit, we already have a solid WR, and another one in Mark Clayton who had a good season last year. We have one of the leagues best TE's in Todd Heap, we need to get our RB contracts settled first, but I think Drew would be a good fit for B-more.
Chargers wont tag Drew Brees.Considering the unknown state of his shoulder & subsequent recovery, I can see them going with Rivers for the long term now. That would be the smart move IMO. Plus they could use the approx 10 million they wouldve spent on Brees by tagging him on getting some secondary help and another WR, which are their two biggest weaknesses.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2334609
Maybe the torn labrum in his throwing shoulder is more serious than we thought? That was a freak accident injury. It was a shame that happened in a meaningless game like that, but what if he might not be the same QB quite again? His arm strength was questionable before the injury.
I think that this will help the Chargers, I believe that Phillip Rivers will be a very good QB especially after sitting these past few years. I also believe that whoever picks up Brees will be getting a very good QB. I just hope for his sake that his shoulder injury isn't as bad as it seems it is.
