"Charges stemming from a domestic dispute involving former Steelers quarterback Mike Tomczak were withdrawn today at a preliminary hearing before a district judge.

Mr. Tomczak, 47, was charged last week with two counts of simple assault after a dispute at his Bell Acres home, police said. He was released on his own recognizance.

"The comment Mike has asked me to make is that this is a private matter between the Tomczaks," said Mr. Tomczak's lawyer, Robert Del Greco Jr. "He is relieved that these charges are now terminated and that he can move on."

Mr. Tomczak was named in a protection from abuse petition filed by his wife last week in Allegheny County Court. Ms. Tomczak said in the eight-page filing that during the dispute at their home, her husband had attacked her physically, threatened her and stomped on her foot."
