Wake Forest defensive coordinator Brad Lambert is leaving the program to become the first head coach at Charlotte, a source confirmed Monday.

Charlotte, a fledgling program entering the FCS level, begins play in 2013. This will be Lambert's first head coaching job. He was not immediately available for comment.

Lambert has spent the past 10 seasons with Wake Forest, including the past three as defensive coordinator. He coached the linebackers for his first six years. He also coached the defensive backs in 2010.
