Has anybody thought of this possibility? Instead of Jermaine, what if the Lakers offered Bynum (the Pistons are going to need young talent), Kwame (expiring contract), Cook, and our 19 for Billups in a S&T. If that's the case, we could still pursue Ron Artest with Walton and Farmar. In FA we could sign Maagloire and Blake. Billups/Blake Kobe/Evans Artest/Vlad Odom/Turiaf Maagloire/Mihm
Nice, plus we could keep Odom... Billups contract is for only 6M a year... We could give them Kwame and Bynum (10M combined) plus a pick for Billups and McDyess (11M combined) then sign Blake and/or Magloire Billups/Blake/Farmar Kobe/Vujacic Walton/Evans/Cook Lamar/McDyess/Vlad Magloire/Mihm/Turiaf
No. Our biggest weak point is C and PF. Getting someone good for one of those positions should be priority #1.
Its kind of tuff to choose wether you want a PF/C or a PG. But I think that we should go for JO all the way.
Billups would be nice but Jermaine would be better. Jermaine is a couple of years younger, and being a big guy, his performance at an All Star level will go on for longer as he gets banged about less as a big man. He's also yet to hit his peak. Offense isn't the issue, defense is, therefore, having Jermaine will automatically cut the points against us. If we also get Artest, we could be the best defensive team in the NBA.
Actually, being a big guy hurts JO more than helps. He does have more value to us being a center, but when you're 6'10" and about 260 or 270 lbs, that's a lot of weight crashing down. You're more apt to get hurt than if you're 6'3" and 210 lbs. And Jermaine has very much hit his peak I think. In terms of production, he's not likely going to get much higher than 20/10, especially if he's playing with Kobe.
Billups will be great at the point guard position but we need a PF or C because thats our weak spot and Billups is older than O'neal. We need to get Artest with O'neal and we got a good defense team.
I can't imagine him asking for max dollars after the performance in this series...a team would be stupid to may him that much (especially considering his age)

His performance this series is why I think he's so attainable right now. One bad series doesn't change his game, he's still clutch and he's still a top PG in the league, but if he commands max money, I really think the Pistons will S&T him away rather than pay him. He is old. I'm just hoping for changes on our team and I'd love Billups, even more so than I would Jermaine (who is one of my favorite players). Billups, Kobe, and Odom can get further and Jermaine and Kobe. If we could add the right pieces through the draft and the MLE, there is no reason why that trio can't contend.
Billups won't be shooting under 70% from the free throw line either. Maybe he can recruit McDyess over to shore up our frontline.
I don't actually think we're looking into Billups right now, I think we're looking for a defensive presence.
Question how the hell you going to Land Artes,O'neal,Camby all on the same team. I swear most of the posts you guys make are so childlish to the point where you start believing that Lakers will get 5 all star line up. Come on if you get O'neal thats it !!! You won't get any other good player as simple as that goes. So be happy instead of wishing to put MJ and Kobe on the same team.

I think most people have agreed that if the Jermaine deal happens, the only other option we would have to do is go after Artest. Nobody has posted a Billups, Kobe, Artest, Odom, Camby lineup.
I just watched ESPN news and Stepehen. A. Smith just said, Billups is probably going to stay. But, either Flip or Rasheed will leave. So how about Rasheed?
