It's always seemed to me that pro sports leagues suffer greatly with regards to how commonly they function as a sort of "old boys" network- by which I mean, players with established reputations, or some sort of "in" into the league, are able to remain constantly employed, regardless of their worth relative to younger, cheaper, hungrier alternatives. For example, anyone will have a hard time to convince me why Mark Madsen is playing in the NBA (in the midst of a five year, ten million dollar contract, no less), outside of Kevin McHale's desire to inject a little farce into today's NBA. So, I got to thinking, for a team like Cleveland, that has a superstar who essentially assures an eastern playoff berth, and around 45+ wins on his own, there must be plenty of young, specialized talent that could help such a team, right? Maybe even be a difference maker? The primary player I'm thinking of is Trey Johnson, the 6-5 scoring machine from Jackson State, who went undrafted. Does anybody else have any ideas on inexpensive players who might help this team become more complete (and perhaps inject some excitement at the same time)?
A cheap option, to inject excitement and ability to the team? Sounds like Shannon Brown to me. If given PT this season, I think he could be awesome for the Cavs.
Mad dog is actually a very good hustle player. He gets every loose ball and plays some solid defense. Just because he isn't a scorer or particularly athletic doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the league. He also has experience and doesn't try to be "the guy" like a lot of young players.
