I was on the side that said Dont start the Rookie, but I think we need to start the rookie. He gives us the best chance of winning
Sanchez got a dose of reality against the Ravens today (threw a pick six, followed it up with a near pick). Don't think he was ready for the speed of the game, because he wasn't setting up plays on time (2 delay of game calls), wasn't able to make important reads before the snap, and panicked against Baltimore's blitzing. I still like him, but he's gonna need some experience before he can make an impact against the legit NFL D's. FWIW, Clemens threw an even more ridiculous pick six and he only had 2 minutes of playing time.
Sanchez led the Jets on his last sequence leading to a 19 yard TD drive. He looked terrible early on and Ray Lewis baited him perfectly on the INT he dropped LOL. At least Rex Ryan gave him a chance to face a top defense in the league and give him a dose of what to expect.
Even during that drive, he wasn't all that impressive IMO. He got sacked on a play when he should've seen the LB blitz up the gut and got ready to throw the checkdown pass. That drive consisted of Leon Washington making plays on 3rd and longs. I did like that final TD pass though. He scrambled out but set his feet before he fired off the pass, which is a rare quality among rookie QB's (he actually did that twice during the half).
Byron Leftwich has shown me nothing that I didn't already know from his play in Jacksonville. He has a slow, awkward delivery that requires a lot of time and a very high degree of accuracy to be effective. Tampa's O-line is very good, so the first part will be covered. But he just isn't accurate enough for that throw to consistently hit the target where it should. He was overthrowing recievers like crazy today.
lol, that's because Kellen Clemens replicated Sanchez's mistakes in a minute and a half of gametime. The Jets will regret not signing a veteran QB this offseason.
