<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In the last year, David Hawkins has been all over the world. He went to China with the Houston Rockets during the 2004 preseason. He competed professionally in Italy. He played for the Washington Wizards' summer-league team in Las Vegas.

However, by the way he is hustling and shooting and playing defense during this week's 76ers minicamp, Hawkins is focused on a goal to drop anchor for the 2005-06 NBA season in Philadelphia.

"I'd love to stay in Philly," said Hawkins, the third-leading career scorer in the history of Temple basketball. "I feel comfortable here. I'm from Washington but [the Wizards] never were my favorite team. I always liked the Sixers, to be honest. I also have a lot of family in Philly."

Hawkins, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound guard, is one of eight players in camp with no contractual ties to the Sixers. With president and general manager Billy King possibly looking to bring three or four extra bodies to October's training camp, it's fair to say that Hawkins has a shot to get that far.

At least Hawkins has impressed head coach Maurice Cheeks.

"I love David Hawkins," Cheeks said yesterday. "He's like an old-school kind of player. He looks like he can't run but he can shoot. He knows how to get in screen-and-rolls. He's just like a throwback kind of player, but he's pretty effective. He knows how to play.

"I think he has the skills to be an NBA player if he continues to progress the way he's been out here. He's a jovial kid. You like to be around him. He's a pretty good defender for his size. He always has his hands on the ball. He knows how to score, knows how to get in the paint, can shoot the three."</div>

Intersting, I think the 76ers should trust Mo's judgement. You never know how good this guy can be until you give him a chance and apparently Mo thinks he has something.

You know...I've always had the impression that Hawkins could be a good role player off the bench by his ....4th or 5th year

He was a great overall player when he played for Temple, I was pretty suprised nobody picked him up last year, he can provide some great scoring off the bench.

Sounds like a decent player although I don't know much about him. I guess if we sign him he'll be Mckie or Green's replacement for shooting guard.

Eh, he's not gonna be that effective, I don't really see him doing that much, 5 points a game the most.
