Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas The Arsenal French Foreign Legion, I can understand, but it was only a few days ago that Peter Kenyon was boasting how the core of the Chelsea team will always be English and they have plenty of English players in their squad. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">we have to make sure we don't kill an element of the game that has made us successful.</div> Keep digging.
Re: Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas Kenyon spouting off about Chelsea being based around British players, then rejecting Homegrown Player Quotas. I can understand Arsenal given they're team is pretty much all French but if Chelsea are "based on British players", why the complaints?
Re: Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas Complaints from what? your not much sense or am i missing something? Chelsea's core is English with Terry (captain) and Lampard, then you've got both Coles, SWP and Bridge.
Re: Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas Yes, a limit # of foreign players per team. Chelsea have the same amount of decent English players as United (I'll exclude all the crappy players United have who only play in the cups). This can be said for a lot of other teams within the premiership.
Re: Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas It's not "anti-Chelsea shit" at all. Why, if they do have the players are they objecting to a perfectly rational and fair ruling of limiting the foreign legion? It makes no sense. And it's not about the number of decent British players, it's about the number of British players full stop. And that's where Chelsea, and most definitely Arsenal, would fall down.
Re: Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas Unlike Arsenal, Chelsea spend millions on foreign players, so if this rule did come into play it would mean money down the drain for them, so yes they have every right to complain and rule against it.
Re: Chelsea & Arsenal against player quotas That's what I'm saying. If Chelsea was as British as Peter Kenyon claimed, they, like United, would have zero problems with the clause. But they're shitting themselves now and throwing their toys out the pram. I can see why clubs don't like buying the top-rated Brits (inflated transfer-fee, media hype and excessive attention) but if this ruling comes into effect, the prices will come down. It's not a move against the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal, it's a move for the academy system and the footballing youth of that country.
