Why do people constantly talk as if Chelsea won nothing before Abramovich came along. In the seven years before Abramovich bought Chelsea they won 2 FA Cups, 1 European Cup Winners Cup, 2 League Cups, 1 Super Cup(beating Real Madrid in 1998), and at least 1 Charity Shield. So thats at least seven trophies in the seven years before Abramovich bought Chelsea. Seven trophies between 1997-2000. Thats a record that most clubs would kill for. Compare that to a club like Newcastle who haven't won a trophy in over 40 years! But nobody ever accuses Newcastle of not having a history. In the early 1970's Chelsea also had a very successful period winning the European Cup Winners Cup and the FA Cup. So Chelsea might not have won the League title so many times but we've got a decent history of winning trophies in the last 40 years.
Thats right. If you read George Best's autobiography he said that back in the 1960's the only other club he would have joined if he had to leave Man Utd would have been Chelsea. Chelsea were considered the most glamorous club in England in the 1960's.
No one accuses of Newcastle of having no history because they are not competing for the title boasting about how they spend millions and still cant win the European cup. You can say have history when you have ACTUALLY won the european cup, you'll be waiting a long time.
Chelsea were considered the most glamourous club in the 60s because of their location in the richest part of the capital of the country. It was the Best-era that spawned the modern footballer off the field (the nightclubs, the sponsorship deals, the press coverage) so it was only natural they were drawn to the moneyed areas of the biggest city.
My Dad used to call Chelsea the Man City of the south. Promised a lot but delivered nothing. The Liverpool song is not meant as a disrespect to the club so much but as an insult to the Glory hunting hangers on that support the club now. Where have they all come from all of a sudden? I'll bet a lot of them have gone back to supporting Man Ure now again.
Nobody accuses us of not having a history? hahahahahaha Every match supports sing "You've never won fuck all" which is stupid because we sing "We've never..." People say chelsea have no history because they are quick to jump to conclusions.
