Chelsea Face FA Charges
Chelsea Football Club have been hit with two charges by the Football Association in relation to their conduct during and after the defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
Chelsea have once again been reprimanded by the Football Association, following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The game was contentious from start to finish, John Obi Mikel being sent off after half an hour after a challenge on Patrice Evra that on reflection deserved a yellow card at the most.
United then scored deep in injury time, after the minimum amount of time shown by the fourth official had elapsed, with Chelsea’s protestations ignoring the fact that the number on the board is a minimum.
Following the sending off of Mikel the Chelsea players, as is seen in football today, cajoled and harassed the referee for several minutes, and it’s for this that they face charges.
A statement released by the FA read: “Chelsea have been charged with failing to control their players during their match against Manchester United on 23 September.
“This charge relates to the conduct of Chelsea players towards referee Mike Dean following the sending-off of John Obi Mikel.”
Meanwhile assistant manager Steve Clarke has also been charged for his conduct after the game.
“Steve Clarke has been charged with abusive and/or insulting words towards the match officials after the end of the match at Old Trafford,” the statement continued.
“Chelsea and Clarke have until 12 October to respond to the charges.”
