Stade Rennais don't seem to be fazed by the loss of John Mensah to Lyon over the summer. They did replace him with experienced first-teamer Carlos Bocanegra and Ghanaian striker Gyan Asamoah. Replace one Ghanaian for another I suppose. In any case, they don't need to worry about new forwards because they already are stocked with great players like Jimmy Briand, who has begun his quest to cement a place in the French national squad.

Some changes that need to be made over the January transfer window is offloading Sylvain Wiltord first. The former French national team regular has been complaining non-stop and doesn't believe in the methods manager Guy Lacombe has utilized in club's recent success. He hasn't even been used as a forward much during his short tenure with the club and his departure would open up room for Lacombe to use wonderkid Yacine Brahimi.

Bringing in some help in the midfield would be good. They don't need to worry about whether to bring in a defensive of offensive threat because they're almost equal with Lyon in terms of goals for and against (+10). What they do need is consistency and bringing in one or two top players by spending a fair amount of money will be key if they are to compete with Les Gones down the stretch.
