Chicago Bulls (0-5) at Golden State Warriors (1-7)

Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 7:30 PM PST
At the Arena in Oakland, CA

Golden State: 4.5 GB (Pacific, 5th place)
Chicago: 4.0 GB (Central, 5th place)

Probable Starters:
Chicago Bulls
PG Kirk Hinrich
SG Eric Piatkowski
SF Andre Nocioni
PF Tyson Chandler
C Eddie Curry

Golden State Warriors
PG Speedy Claxton
SG Jason Richardson
SF Mike Dunleavy, Jr.
PF Troy Murphy
C Cliff Robinson

Quick Recaps
The Chicago Bulls have started off 0-5, leading them to the cellar of the central conference. Although rookies Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni and Chris Duhon have exceed expectations, Chicago's first draft pick, Ben Gordon, has been inconsistent at best this year. In addition, 2001 high school duo Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry have gotten off to slow starts. The team is scoring very well, but have yet to exhibit sound defense in any of their games. This will be their second game of a long seven game road trip and also a back-to-back game after losing to Sacramento, 106-113.

The Warriors return to Oakland from an 1-4 roadtrip. Although the Warriors' effort has been improving in each game, they have not displayed enough consistency to shut down other teams for four quarters. In their last game, they lost to Cleveland 88-99, and although they were competitive throughout the game, their fourth quarter performance let them down.

Key Matchup
Luol Deng v. Mike Dunleavy

Two former Duke small forwards will have a fierce battle in this game to help their young teams win. Although Deng primarily comes off the bench for the Bulls, he is the team's leader in scoring at 19.2 points per game and also provides a hefty number of rebounds at 7.2 per game. On the other hand, Dunleavy is a starter for the Warriors, but has not has provided the same kind of sparkplug-like intensity that Deng has brought so far to the bulls. Although Dunleavy is averaging a very solid line of 12.9 points a game, 5.3 rebounds a game, and 3.6 assists a game, he has been in the background of most games. The presence of another Duke product should either spark him into a powerful performance or totally sink him into a non-factor.

Prediction
The Bulls sport a shocking and peculiar 33 game losing streak when playing against Western conference teams in November. But, they face the Warriors, who are clearly one of the teams struggling in the Western Conference (along with the former Eastern Conference New Orleans Hornets). Both teams are young, lack defensive discipline, and have something to prove. To win, the Warriors must show great intensity and outrun the Bulls to take advantage of the Bulls' back-to-back night.

I'm going to predict this will be a close game, but expect the Warriors to pull out a win against the Bulls.Last night against Sacramento, the Bulls showed some guts, but they lack passion in there playing style(no offense Bull fans),but the Warriors have shown some heart and passion and are working on their game.so Golden State should win tonight.

Warriors 86 Bulls 83

I think the Warriors will lose if they play like they have for all the games except against Charlotte.

They shouldn't lose to the Bulls at all.as i think the Bulls are a worser team than the Warriors in my opinion.

If the Warriors win it won't be pretty, but if they can get some great scoring drives, than they will win the game. However if they fumble around and get sloppy in all their areas, than they will lose to the Bulls.

But i'm standing by my prediction that the Warriors will win tonight.

If I am wrong, then I win. If I am right, I win.

I think the W's can finally give the home crowd something to cheer about after stinking it up in Oakland last week. They've been horrible at best this whole year and need to find some comfort back at home. I expected a win against the expansion Bobcats and expect another win over another struggling team.

Team will have to be a good jumping shooting team tonight even though they are not a great jump shooting team. Don't look for any points in the paint tonight unless its off a turnover for a fastbreak. I like the game so far, but the 2nd half is another story. We'll wait and see.

Well Murphy was a little hot, Jrich was a little hot. Speedy is just tearing apart the defense with his handles. Foyle is benched again in favor of Clifford Robinson at center. Heh. Way to go with that money, Mullin.

It's a good shooting night with the size advantage.

Bulls are comitting stupid turnovers and rookie mistakes. Curry is just a non factor. I like that Luol Deng guy and Kirk Hinrich though.

I really called the key matchup wrong, both forwards are non-factors. D'oh!

Speedy is going really well, for sure. 5-6 shooting and 4-4 from the line, not bad.

Chicago could really be using former bull Trenton Hassell right about now or maybe Ron Artest [IMG] I thought this game would be a disaster if we weren't making shots because Chicago is really athletic and they lead the league in offensive rebounds.

we miss Chris Mullin, Mitch Richmond, Timmy Hardaway, Chris Webber before he became a baby, Sprewell before he went crazy, and maybe Antwan Jamison.

Bulls and Warriors have a lot in common I think, except Bulls obviously have more championships. We got like ummm one in 75 because of Rick Barry, Sleepy Floyd, Al Attles, Nate Thurmond. I think. Correct me if I'm wrong but that was a sweet lineup.

J-Rich has really come alive these last few games. The key thing will be his consistency. I'm glad to see that he finally found his outside shot...that should open up a lot more opportunities for him to score inside.
Is this starting lineup permanant? If so, Foyle really blew it...actually Mullin really blew it signing foyle to that big contract.

maybe jamison? this guy is very good. very strong and can score lights out. i remember him dropping 50 in back-to-back games. hes not a bench player, he was that and a role player on the mavs, thats not him (he still avgd 14 ppg with them). hes doing great with the wizards. i wouldnt mind having him at all. this guy can score and has had a decent FG%.

I said this last year, I really miss Jamison because he was a no nonsense guy who always played hard. Sure he had problems on D but he worked hard. The problem was his game is cutting and offensive glass and no one would pass him the ball when he cut, it was horrible. Now the Warriors are a jumpshooting team who need a cutting presence.

I like his attitude, missed his low post scoring, but hated his defense and "tweener-ism". His shot was also pretty ugly. He'd shoot lunging at a 45 degree angle. He also didn't pass much.

Not to mention his post up. I barely endured Jamison trade, because we dumped his salary for the better financial future. But, if I knew we would dump his salary slot for Foyle and Fisher, I probably would go berserk. At least with Jamison, we don't have to worry about scoring, and it's not like Dunleavy is playing any defense either...
