On Saturday, a spokesperson for the Chinese space program announced that China’s next space mission will be launching in June of 2013. This will be the country’s first manned space mission since the Shenzhou-9 completed the program’s first manned docking mission last June. This mission, Shenzhou-10, will also dock with the Tiangong-1 spacelab. The crew has not yet been selected, but like Shenzhou-9, it’s anticipated to comprise two men and one woman. Among the crew of Shenzhou-9 was Liu Yang, the first Chinese woman in space. Crew selection will occur in 2013. “They will stay in space for 15 days, operating both automated and manual space dockings with the target orbiter Tiangong-1, conducting scientific experiments in the lab module and giving science lectures to spectators on the Earth,” Niu Hongguang of the Chinese space program told Xinhua.
