When there are players for sale during the Jan transfer window such as Micah Richards for ?18M and Gareth Bale ?10M who would clearly solve Chelsea's defensive crisis immediately, I just cannot understand why Kenyon/Roman do not seem keen to flash the cash despite clearly being able to afford to.

We saw a couple of years ago Scott Parker signed for over ?10M. He plays in a position in which we already had the best defensive mindfielder in the world - Makelele. That was a complete waste of money. Equally Duff was bought for ?17M and sold for ?5M. Obvious bad investments.

We have even shelled out far more than ?10M for Paulo Ferreira who is far older and far less talented than either Bale or Richards. It just doesn't make sense. Surely Kenyon can see that either of these talented full backs are not only the answer to Chelsea's defensive problems but also a great investment.

It has often confused me as to why when hugely talented young players come on the market we don't seem interested Robben/Cech apart. Players such as Rooney/Robinho before and now these two English, YES ENGLISH!, full backs. It just does not make sense.

A final thought - exactly what is Mr Arnesen doing. I thought he was in a role supporting Mourinho in the capacity of advising on the brightest talents around. Word on him has been rather quiet since we bought (YES BOUGHT) him from Spurs.
