The Memphis Grizzlies own three picks (No. 12, 25 and 28) in the first round of the draft. According to The Commercial-Appeal, the team is not in trade talks to acquire a top-10 pick, but deals are being discussed to move one or two of the picks. The Grizzlies want to upgrade the point guard position and the newspaper reports that they have interest in the Hornets' Chris Paul and Darren Collison. All teams have been told that they must also take back either Peja Stojakovic (one year, $15.3 million), Emeka Okafor (four years, $48 million) or James Posey (two years, $13 million) if they want to acquire one of the point guards. The Grizzlies have not spoken to the Raptors about Jose Calderon. "There will be a market for us to package the 20s and move up, to sell, to step out and take something for the future," general manager Chris Wallace said. "It remains to be seen what the market is for a player already under contract." Source: Memphis CA
Any smart team would eat Emeka's contract along with Paul's no problem. Paul would be in the same class with any of the free agents available right now. Emeka Okafor isn't quite a slouch either.
Maybe this is the trade that Kevin Pritchard is working on. Interesting... I think they could match up the salaries if they moved Camby, Miller, and Przybilla.
