Who do you think is the better overall and all-around player?

I'll take Deron Williams because he is the better scorer and the better defender. He has more range and has a better jump shot, he also proved he can take over in a playoff game. We can only hope Cp3 can do the same thing.

Chris Paul in a heartbeat. Look how well his team is doing this year. Paul can takeover whenever he wants. He's already one of the top PGs in the league in his 2nd year.

cp3 can take over in the regular season but can he take over in the playoffs?

Playoffs is when it matters the most not the regular season.

Based on his play so far, why would anyone think he wouldn't be outstanding in the playoffs?

Do you have a reason to believe he wouldn't?

i'm saying he hasn't shown that he can take over in the playoffs. Deron showed it last year. We can only hope we can see that but cp3 hasn't even made it the playoffs yet, and also Deron is the better scorer and defender in my book.

    Fair enough.

The playoff argument is definitely a plus for Deron, but not in any way a minus for Paul.

Why do you say Deron is the better scorer?

He's never averaged as many points as Paul and he is a significantly worse FT shooter.

What have you observed that leads you to make this judgement?

I don't think any of that is true at this point. Statistically, Paul beats Williams in every category. They have the same 3 pt % so that rules out the "Williams is the better shooter/better range" idea. Where the hell did Deron Williams get the reputation as being anything more than a mediocre defender btw? I never heard it before the GS series but the peopel in the media got it in their head that Deron Williams was defending Baron Davis well. Actually, Baron had significantly better numbers in pretty much every category than he did in the Mavs series when he went head to head against Deron.

Not saying Paul is a good defender either though. Both guys suck in that regard. Paul gets a ton of steals though and rebounds better. Paul averages more assists despite Deron being in a great system to get assists in. Paul is averaging more ppg and his team is doing better. For a second there Deron was killing in the POs and seemed to have the upper hand over Paul. This season I'd say Paul is clearly better.

Because Deron is the better jump shooter, Deron can make shots outside and inside. Cp3 mainly in the paint like an Allen Iverson.

Last year, Deron shot 32% from three. Paul shot 35%.

This year, Paul takes and makes more threes than Deron while shooting the exact same percentage.

i also usually see Deron moving without the ball a bit more. In my opinion Deron is very good mid-range shooter. but cp3 might be a better 3 point shooter.

I'll take Deron because he can also post up and is strong enough too.

EDIT: However i like cp3's style of play a lot more than Deron's but i think Deron is the better player at this point, this season however goes to Chris Paul's.

Since Deron's so much bigger, why is Paul the better rebounder?

How come Deron plays with the much better offensive talent on a team that averages eight more PPG, but averages 1.5 less APG?

Deron's team is the better rebounding team and is more defensively minded. Chris Paul and his team have been doing a great job on offense and i'll say it right now Chris Paul is having the better season but Deron has been having the better career.

It's been two seasons and a few months. Not much of a sample size to make a sweeping statement about their respective careers.

Deron had one shaky season and one awesome one.

Paul has been consistently great since day one, but has had trouble staying on the court (which is bothersome for a guy his size).
